Title: Hozelock Pump Thingy
Post by: Lonewolf on April 12, 2012, 03:54:10 PM
Ok, not directly connected to a GTR but it might come in handy.
Halfords £25, pump it and spray it and watch the muck just run away. Almost forgot, its guaranteed for two years as well so thats a bonus.

Hi LW
Yes those pumpy things really do work, I bought one from a garden centre a couple of years ago, for spraying the plants. The one I have, not only a good length of hose, but it also came with a lance which you can get right into the awkward place to clean  leave for a couple of minutes then rinse :
I got mine for the car, but I use on the bikes aswell

Cheers Sidders

Sidders, hi, what do you put in yours? Mucoff or some other product?

I use whatever M and P has on a two fer one at the show.... brings the patio up a treat... TBH the best stuff is the castrol gel type as it stays on the bike and off the drive till rinsed

I have had something similar for the last 3 or 4 years and use it to spray on diluted Muck off onto the bike, the lance is great for getting into those hard to reach places.  and as other have said a leave a few minutes before washing off.

I have a simular pump spray thingy, which is for spraying garden fence paint, so it'd be no good for use on the bike now, unless someone wants to borrow it to change their bike to a nice Foret Green colour, as it says on the tin  :mfr_lol:

The squirty bottles which come with MucOff product are very good but I reckon the pump action job would be even better...I may just give that a go,

p.s my GTR is already Green

Mr Wolf ...  that is exactly what I am after .... what % dilution do you use with for instance  Muc Off ?
Title: Re: Hozelock Pump Thingy
Post by: Lonewolf on April 14, 2012, 08:09:52 PM
Rusty, currently I have used it neat, but I will dilute it probably 70/30, 30% being the water. I'll see how that performs and then I might dilute it further providing it still does its job.
Mucoff is quite expensive, I can buy a 5ltr container of it for £10, the usual price is £20 but I think the best option is to buy TFR, traffic film remover which you can usually buy in 25ltr or 200ltr tubs. This is considerably cheaper, I think mucoff is too expensive compared with some of the more widely available TRF's.

Thanks Steve ... I usually hose the bike off, then apply MO neat, leave it for a while then brush and sponge it all over .. but I like the idea of the big spray

Rusty I only got it a few days ago so I've only used it once. The bike was filthy and yet all the muck just run off. Much easier that struggling to get in small gaps with a wet sponge.

Hi LW,
All I tend to use is a mixture of Car shampoo and water. The pump container is quite large so I just put a couple of inches of shampoo top up with water pump it like chuff :banana:and off you go
Nothing too technical

Not as good as the Halfrauds one but a cheap alternative from Lidl at 2.99, develops good pressure

Aldi do a larger one with a hose for  9.99

You could come down and try it out mine - have no problem with that
I'll even supply the Muck off for the bike and a coffee.

I was just wondering what to do in case of a hosepipe ban. This may be the answer...

I'm also thinking this might be the year to buy a pressure washer, or similar. With hosepipe bans in place there might be some offers to be had!

I'm probably being a bit thick here, but what's the advantage of this over the standard spray containers that Muc Off et all come in?

I'm thinking that if there's a hosepipe ban it'd be useful to wash off things like MucOff. i.e. fill with water. It'll hold 5 litres that you then pressurise and squirt. Or, you could buy MucOff or similar in bulk (i.e. non spray bottles) and put it into this to apply to your bike.

you can do your own mix of hot water and detergent, pressure up the container and just trigger the areas , works upside down unlike normal pump sprays,

Asif, whether I have just been unlucky in the past I dont know but the Muc Off spray containers seem to have weak trigger mecahnism's and usually end up breaking on me. This Hozelock system appears better in the fact that you cant half build up some pressure to get in all those nooks and crannies. You can easily dilute the solution if you want and its a very simple piece of equipment to use.
I like it,

It's now called a portable shower instead of portable car wash. Same product, but I guess it didn't sell as a portable car wash!

I got SWMBO to pick one up yesterday. It'll be quite handy I think, so thanks for the tip off. It does look like it'll need filling up a couple of times during washing though, but that might be necessary if we get a hosepipe ban.

We are on a hosepipe ban down here in Sussex so we have to get used to it .... I sprayed on Muc Off as it comes and used the hozelock to rinse it off after the wash and wipe .. originally I was going to dilute the MO and fill the washer with it but that would be a huge amount of MO to use in comparison to the few squirts that it usually gets ... worked well

Thankfully we don't currently have a hose pipe ban and considering the rain which has fallen today hopefully we wont get one. I've only used the Hozelock Pump Thingy once so far and just used neat Muck Off from it after first rinsing the bike with hose water. The dirt on the bike just rinsed away after another hosing down.

I bought a Mobi washer (http://www.mobiwasher.co.uk/?gclid=CP_rhrma_q8CFcshtAodBX9VDw) V17 which I'm rather pleased with. I realise I could have bought several of the manual-pumpy-things for the same money but I don't have to do the manual-pumpy-thing with this.
