Title: Zumo Not Working
Post by: patrick on April 11, 2012, 07:48:24 PM
Any suggestions.

My zumo 550 is powered from the 12 v socket on the bike and wasnt starting up when bike power is tourned on with ignition.

The 12 volt plug was a bit rusty and my12volt pump worked so i assumed it was the plug on the gamin lead.

I've changed this, and ther is 12 volts at the mount end of the lead. The unit works correctly on the car mount when plugged into 12 volts.

My conclusion is that the fault is in the mount, so I;m going to source a replacment mount and lead. Any other suggestions before i spend  on these?

can you inspect/clean the contacts on the mount and on the zumo.

the pins on the bike mount press in when the unit is attached, just check them all over

for piece of mind id try the whole bike  unit in my car socket , you never know ?

Have you tried calling Garmin? They may be able to offer a solution.

hi pat,
if i remember rightly when i bought mine, there were some problems with the cradles on some batches, have a look on "zumo forums",there are loads of usefull info on there, describing the 550 and the new 600 summat!!!,
hope this helps,
i was also told to put a small dab of vaseline on the contacts of the cradle this helps to keep the contacts from corroding when washing the bike over and the obvious,,, rain

Pat I don't have a Zumo as I use Tom Tom, BUT, I had a simular problem with the TT docking/charge mount, which was replaced by TomTom  F.O.C. (problem solved)

So your problem which you have located by a process of elimination would seem to be within the mount, if you can test the actual terminals on the mount this would confirm your suspicions

As has been suggested try to clean the connections on your mount and dvice before purchasing a new one, but be gentle with the terminals. I would suggest using a piece of 'scotchbright' to start with

Hope you get it sorted.
