I am new to the whole GTR thing and whilst I love the bike I am not so happy with the whole keyless ignition concept.
The question I have is what does everyone do with their key whilst riding the bike, I have mine on a landyard that I wear round my neck as I am worried that if i put in my pocket it will fall out when I forget to zip the pocket up. I am sure there is an obvoius solution that I have failed to think of :stupid:!!
The delaer told me to put it in the fairing cubbyhole, but doesn't this automatically lock once you shut the bike off so was worried that it would get locked in there, I don't want to try and then end up ringing the dealer up to get it out. :embarrassed:
I need help!!
there is a big sign on the cubby hole that says..'do not put the key fob in here'... :mfr_lol:
I lurve the whole keyless thing, mainly as i have a memory like a bucket with no bottom, and have a habit of leaving keys in ignitions...
Usually i put the fob in me pocket and zip it up, but if i'm touring or liable to use said pocket it goes on a lanyard round me neck also.
Just don't understand what's wrong with a good old fashion key and a slot to put it in where I can see it and know its secure.
I travel with my job and notivce that more cars are going down this route and get annoyed with this too, I once spent 45 minutes in the Avis car rental place at Phoenix airport with three Avis staff as we all searched the car high and low for the key as it was a keyless car and no slot to put the FOB in, we knew it was in the car as it would start but couldn't find the FOB itself (eventually found under the passanger seat). I think the previous hirer had hid it for a laugh or because like me he was so pi$$ed of with misplacing it...
Its an age thing :whistling:
Hi there, never leave the fob on the bike, in a pannier or anywhere unless you no longer want to own a GTR. :mfr_lol:
I tend to zip the fob into an inside jacket pocket where it stays permanantly. I always know where to find it and like Mogster I have a poor memory so it wouldn't do for me to keep it anywhere else.
On a serious note its actually quite alarming that a dealer should advise you to leave the fob in the glove box!
Mine lives in my bike trouser pocket as I use it to get under the seat every day to turn my ipod on, hooked up to my autocom.
Never leave it in the glove box. Which dealer was daft enough to suggest that? I'd love to wander into their showroom and test ride their GTR around a bit... ;-)
Inside jacket pocket works for me, easy peasy.
Tank Bag?
Mine stays in my jacket pocket. Never ride without my jacket so its a no brainer

Ditto, mine stays in the same pocket in the same jacket and nothing else gets put in that pocket so no need to unzip/zip

Welcome Dj .... thank goodness you have chosen the best Ubertourer on the planet !
Just keep it in your bike trousers ... the fob that is ... mine has been there for a year .. never comes out ... when I need petrol I take the central turning ignition thingy out and use that ... easy ... never ever leave it in the bike compartment ....
Lanyard round neck, spare key in inside jacket pocket
My fob also lives in my jacket since I never ride the bike without it.
It's got a little pocket in the sleeve and there it stays.
I use the spare key for the tank and panniers and I never remove the key from the ignition.
I keep mine in an inside jacket pocket and try to not do what a mate did........ lock the jacket (and fob!!) (using a sapre pannier key) in a pannier!
I dont leave mine in jacket pocket as my wardrobe for the bike gear is in the same room as bike and im sure the thiefs would look there. I usually put it into my trouser pocket but im so worried that one day i will start the bike at home and drive away leaving the fob in the garage and then not being able to restart the bike. My pillion always has the spare in her pocket as well, just in case we loose the fob. Im thinking of getting a lanyard for the fob, also worried that one day it will get wet in my leathers pocket .
I have got a keyless gas flap to make life a bit easier

Obviously not the bathroom; would not want to get coal dust on the GTR  :biker3:
I hadn't thought of putting the spare key in my pillion's jacket - might do this just in case.
fob goes in my textile trousers pocket which is zipped, the emergency i.e "credit card key" which is called that for a reason... I leave in my wallet, which is also safely stored "but" in my textiles jacket pocket!! which is also zipped. I also carry a spare proximity remote battery, which is also small enough to stored in my wallet. it's works for me..

Until the day when you want to go for a ride and ask yourself, 'where did I put that :single fuck: ing lanyard now?'
So far I have misplaced keys, glasses, wallets and whatnot - but never my biking jacket.

That sums it up in one :agree:
My key is in the same place in my jacket at all times
Bike jacket pocket, zipped up with my wallet.
Since I never ride without the jacket, not a problem.
If you are the kind of person who loses keys/wallets etc. then your biggest problem will be the cost of replacement fobs.
I urgently suggest that you figure out a routine so that you DON'T lose the fob.
As for keys,... old tech, been there, fobs are a massive improvement! IMHO
