Why???
Buy two 20 litre Jerry cans, fill them and stick them in the panniers.
That should give you a range of 450 miles at 35Mpg (HOON Mode!)

Either that or you can fill the car and return home every 180 miles to fill up from the car.
A friend did just that during the last Tankers drivers strike.
He's a courier so he filled his old Jag XJ6 which gave him 120litres of petrol storage at home.
That would run his Dullville for a month!

As a friend says "Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance"  :mfr_lol:

Or work on an oil refinery and be able to fill up at source if they pumps run dry outside the gate..............(Yes it is duty paid ). :lipsrsealed:

Its all a ploy by our beloved government, to fill the coffers with extra money from the rise in sales due to the panic buying.  The annoying thing is petrol is as such an unwanted product in the world of refining.....there is no profit in it

Not that happy about the disruption, but I respect their right to protest by holding industrial action.  They get my vote!

Petrol stations cashing in as price rises 4p per litre at my local!

Queues at Asda this evening and at Esseo garage. Just been down and filled the spare car so we can drain that if it really goes pear shaped, no queues there mind at 9.10pm at the local garage.

What happened to all the truckers that were striking when petrol went to 1.25p.

At 1.42p it's bloody daylight robbery. I would be happy to see every motorway blocked by Truckers bringing the government to the point of negotiating Petrol prices down.

All our vehicles are Diesel, so filled them up yesterday, we are on holiday next week so filled the motorhome with 75 litres of diesel and the bikes with 30 litres, a 20 litre jerry can, and a 5 litre can of unleaded, just in case. We are out this weekend on another egg run so we of will use the 30 litres, hopefully will replenish sunday ready for the holiday.

Petrol tanker drivers, who earn 45k a year btw, are striking over pay and conditions, they say that as they do a dangerous job they need more money.... :hammer:
I am assuming that there are plod on here, who also do a dangerous job, haven't you guys had a virtual pay cut, summit about 'pay increments'.
And of course the guys and girls in Afghanistan had a shite pay rise...

They are a great many tankers that travel our roads, which transport chemicals that make petrol look as flammable as custard, i don't see them striking for better pay....

Methinks this is just the start of a personal battle between the unions and the government, this is only going to get worse and make the UK look bloody stupid during the Olympics.

Stockpiling won't make the Govt any profit. Anyone stockpiling will have to use it in increasing amounts to raise additional revenue for the Govt.

During the 70s the unions had too much power and 'milk snatcher' Thatcher broke them. We're now at the other end of the spectrum where the corporation has too many powers.

I didn't know that tanker drivers are public servants and the government is paying their wages.   :stupid:
And who gives a fat rat's bottom if anybody thinks that having industrial action going on makes a country look stupid?  :ohplease:

you are missing the point, at the moment the Unions are looking for any excuse to have a pop at the government due to the cuts in the public sector and are doing so by encouraging their members to go out on strike at the drop of a hat,  as i write this i see that the baggage handlers at Stansted are now coming out on strike on on Good Friday..cheers  :hammer:

I agree that there has to be a balance between profits and wages, and at the moment the general feeling as that certain sectors are 'coining it' but that does not give the right to drop tools and cripple the country, just because you can.

It's all a load of bollox.  :shit: :asshole:
What's actually happening is that they have all been told that if they vote for a strike then they won't have to work the Bank Holiday weekend. Bunch of sheep being herded by their Union leaders who have an axe to grind with the company management, and the government.
Same thing with the BA cabin crew last year, Tube drivers, Train drivers and many many others.
Personally I am sodding off to Belgium to see my sister,
eat Frites with Andalouse sauce
drink Rochefort 8 :punk:
and relax.
If the UK goes to the dogs whilst I'm there, I may not bother coming back.
No, that's not true. I'll have to come back to get the cats and my bike.

Gents

One thing changed by the last government was the right to additional payments for working on Bank Holidays, they are now treated as just another working day and paid accordingly. Add that to the leverage any union has with any transport related workforce at peak travel times (Olympics??) and yopu can see why this happens.

Most tanker drivers are paid by the transport companies last time I heard by the way.

One knock on effect will be a drop in retail sales, hotels and seasonal attractions as people simply won't have the cash or inclination to travel. Hands up all those who are putting off, or thinking of doing so, a trip away this or next week??

Just think of all that fuel sitting in vehicles, in garages and on the street, all uneccessary. Let alone the sales of "Jerry" cans!!

Who lets these idiots run the country anyway????

Tried to get jungle juice early this morning but all stations either sold out or queuing around the block. Managed to go out of work in the middle of the morning with the low fuel light flashing like a good 'un, but now full to the brim, so they can all suck my plumbs for another 200 miles and perhaps by then the country will have come to its senses; although not holding my breath.

hi guys,
right,,, this is official, mate whos a transport manager up the smoke, has 70 light comm vehicles, ranging from small transits,3.5 ton curtain siders,7 tonners, and 120 artics,,,,,,so this info is about true as you can get,cuz i just texed him an asked!
heres is reply, when ken livinston put the conjestion charge into london, this put 60k on top of his costs overnight!!!,his company is classed as a essential supplier to the uk (this is a national company!)
Tanker drivers earn 60K a year!!!!!!!!!!!!!
they cannot work more than 56 hrs per wk,90 hrs per fortnight! awww, luv um!
transit drivers earn 27k per year!,(still not bad is it) for sat on ya lardy arse,(an before you say owt, they are noy digging the bloody roads up in all winds and weathers are they???.
going back a bit here now,,,, when thatcher did her thing with the miners and the unions,SHE!,WAS THE START OF THE DOWN FALL OF THIS COUNTRY.
the unions of the steel works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,FOOKED TOO!
My father in law spent most of his working live in the steel industry,,,you know wha pension he got????????????????????????? ABSOLUTLY FUK ALL!!!, the lot had been squandered by the so called people in charge who WE paid (handsomly) to look after it for us,,,,,.
unions were frowned upon then for shit stirring etc!,an yes i know they were put there to help workers etc for better conditions etc,but think about it????? where has it got us???????
we know live in a country that most of the industry we dont own,we hardly produce anything,we hardly manufacture very little of any value to the outside world,,,all e are becoming is a service industry,an we aint doing to bloody good a job of this either!
these drivers are going to get a lot of back lash in reguards to this, myself  if i was a prime minister for a week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! every single person in this country would be self employed, this would sift out all the "dead eds" an put this counrty back on its feet,so praps only a minister for a week, then i would either be shot/hung at dawn or knighted!!! :mfr_lol:
but seriously thou, unions,,ugh!!!!!,and as said previous about pay an conditions,,,,,think of our troops out in afghan!!!!!!!!!!! how much a year do they get!!!!!!
sling all those drivers out to find a job as well paid as they have know, there seats in those lorrys would be full in seconds,an some people would happily love those jobs for 1/2 what they get!!!!
anyway, prob pissed a few off here,,, but hey, just my opinion!!! have a great weekend guys, stay safe n hope you all get some fuel and the sun still shines for us :mfr_lol:

During the war!
Bike and car both filled this morning, and then the radio announces at lunch time the strikes have been cancelled in favour of negotiations at the table.
Some you win,

I don't visit this forum to read political clap trap, whether it accurate or otherwise.

Having said that I do acknowledge that everyone on here has a right to 'air' their views..

Consequently I look at posts and can almost immediately see which way they are going...at that point I can choose to read on or skip the post altogther.

The fuel situation is ridiculous and due largely to an idiot minister who didn't engage his brain before letting the brake off his gob.

My days 'at the wheel' are difficult enough without having scour the countryside to get diesel that I need to keep my wagon moving (and me doing my job), the number of muppets I've seen putting small amounts of fuel in their cars just to top up after spending 30minutes in the bloody queue...idiots.

on the news this morning.... the AA reported that a 75 year old woman was seen filling up empty Jam Pots at a petrol station...
one assumes that she had decided it was going to be more profitable to sell 'em at the local WI rather than home made Jam  :mfr_lol:
