Post by: tapps on March 26, 2012, 07:06:57 PM
the bike dealer where i'm getting my gtr from simply fits the tax disc inside the screen,i want to get a proper holder, now the next question is where's the best place to bolt it on.

Mines also mounted front nearside, I think from memory 100milesaway keeps his under his seat. Personally I dont blame him as they are so easy to steal.

Eh under me seat !!!!No mine lives in the clear map pocket on top of my tank bag, which probably makes it more easy to nick than one of those 2 bob holders that the dealers supply. But I very rarely let my bike out of my sight. But in saying all that it would have to be a churlish police officer that would book you if say you carried it in your pocket.

My tax disc holder is mounted near the front mudguard on the left.

Since I've had the bike I've never put the tax disc there. I can see it right now lying on my computer desk ...

the normal place is under the fenda bolt on the n/side. but I just I've the cheapo one the dealer supplied. do have the better quality water proof holder type I removed for my other bike before I traded it. but this type as a thicker mounting shaft which needs a slightly longer bolt than the original to be mount in the same place. don't fancy mounting it anywhere eles, so untill I get round to sourcing a longer bolt the cheapo one is staying put

I think plod could do you for failing to display your disc. ala under the seat .
Since we went national database on vehicle excise duty Ive not really heard of thefts, the police no longer relay on a visual check, even tho they still can prosecute for failing to display.

If you regularly ride somewhere that has a high possibility of getting the tax disc nicked, then the Plod are normally pretty understanding. When I was commuting to London I kept mine bolted inside the topbox lid.
Got stopped a couple of times (for other reasons) and both times they were fine with the location of the disc.
So long as you are taxed and have it on the vehicle they don't really care.

On the 1400 mine is now in a "secure" holder that is bolted to the front/left mudguard mount.
I used a longer bolt and a plastic washer.

I use one of these http://secur-i-disc.co.uk/images/nosmoking.gif (http://secur-i-disc.co.uk/images/nosmoking.gif)
Inside of the windshield, low down so you have to unbolt it.

I am an other under seat Man. Correct me if I am wrong (normally am) but dont you police check via national date base or sumit , that checks if insured etc. I have been told that over zealous SS ....sorry Traffic wardens can pick up on fact there is no tax displayed. Do they report you?
I did scan a tax disc once & displayed that one instead , but guess that might be illegal ? But I am actually at an age now where I have gone past caring......

I think that Traffic Wardens can only report you, and not issue FPN.... unless someone knows different.... course the easiest way to keep traffic wardens away is to just simply ...shoot them  :gun_bandana:
