Title: Lifting the tank.
Post by: Lonewolf on November 25, 2010, 09:42:03 PM
I need to lift the tank a little bit to feed a cable from the front of the bike to the rear, does anyone know how to do this on a pre 2010 model?

NB, I did look at your pics first before I put the post on. But you have to remember I am the person who struggled to put on a rad guard,  ;D Mechanics dont come naturally to me!!

I'm still none the wiser, which bolts do I undo? I dont need to take the tank off, just lift it a bit to feed & tie some cables down.

Make sure you don't have a lot of petrol

All you need to do is remove the bolts in pics 2 and 3 that hold the tank. That's it. You can then wiggle any cable through

I would recommend you tighten them to correct torque. Can cause vibration issues ...

I think I'll have a go at this tomorrow. Going to feed an Autocom cable through for the Zumo so that when I get the main unit in all I need to do is plug it in. Lets see if it really does take just ten minutes ;D

Went out to do it this morning....honest I did. But unfortunately the tank is full so I might have to leave it till I can burn some off. I did make some enquiries though about a Starcom Bike Cam 2 system which will link up to the Autocom, I might have that by the end of the day if I'm lucky. Suppose it would make sense to do both cables at the same time.

Update.....just ordered a Bike Cam 2 from Allan Jeffries BMW at Shipley, Bradford. Delivery for Friday. I'll fit them both together.

I just have to break it to the wife now... :-X

I did say don't have a lot of petrol  :)

For the past few days I've not stepped out of the house. I may go and start the bike up tomorrow for 30 mins. I read somewhere that starting it for short periods isn't good and you need to leave it running for 20 mins

Yeah, I couldn't remember if I had filled it up or not when I returned from Hartside Summit the other week.....obviously I had.

I picked up the Bike Cam 2 system this morning from Allan Jeffries. Even they were very impressed with it. I'm going to move the HD GoPro to the rear of the bike somewhere to get a different perspective and use the Bike Cam pointing forward unless I helmet mount it.
It seperates audio files from video files on the SD card so even though I dont have voice audio on the GoPro I will be able to overlay commentary from the Bike Cam 2 over video footage onto the GoPro footage which should produce a nice little professional set up.

I might make a feature length movie........ ;D ;D

I've been having a play with the Bike Cam 2 which I bought recently. Got to say I'm impressed. I like the simplicity of it, the ultimate test will be the recording quality, its never going to be quite as good as the HD GoPro system but I like what I have seen so far.
I still need to get out on the GTR and burn some fuel off so that I can lift the tank and fit the thing but I've been trying it around the house and garden I am happy with the quality so far.

When I get it fitted I'll be YouTube crazy! Front and rear cameras.....should be good for different viewing perspectives.
