got a phone call from a company called "R.I.A.S" wanting to qoute me for insurance for my ford focus. so ok I said, if you can beat "L.V" which is my present insurer and has been for donkey year's then I'm game! he asked what my renewal qoute was, so told him I'm not prepaired disclose that information untill you tell me what your qoute would be. by the way..! my renewal qoute for this year from "L.V" is £346.00 for fully comp which includes, protected no claims, legal cover, personal cover, breakdown with £200 excess with no voluntary excess. so told him I would want "like for like" policy, so problem sir! we specialise in the over fifites category. so spent 20 minutes on the bloody phone giving him all the details. ford ford focus 1.6 titanium bought new in march 2011 on a 11 plate, no problem sir! will put you on hold for a few minutes while your best qoute is being calculated, 5 minutes later the lowest qoute, which is "like for like" is £1,929.00, well to say I was  would be the understatement of the decade. then he had the dam cheek to ask me, if I would like to proceed with the policy. so told him what he could do with his over fifties insurance qoute
On a similar note, been with eCar for years, but this year their renewal quote was way, way too high (around 1k). So I went with Tesco which I got for just over £600. I had some someone ring me from eCar who were going to beat Tesco and they came up with 1.5k (£500 worse off their renewal quote).

what type of car do you have? even £600 seem's way to much, after all your a skilled biker  well! so I've heard, but did I've my helmet and ear plugs in at the time
Audi A6 with 200k+ miles on the clock. Car is only worth about 2k
I wonder how many people that are called in this way actually accept these outrageous quotes :shifty:
Yeah I trying to work out why the best quote for the piece of shite Rover 1.4 i just brought for £750 is only £80 cheaper than the 25k MX5 that it is replacing....down sizing cars before you ask... fed up with the depreciation :hammer:

well acording to the insurance companies. the reason why old cars are are not that much cheaper to insure is because statistics show, that a person with a older car doesn't care as much, so may take more risks. also older cars have older brakes, tyres, suspension, e.t.c and can contain spotty teennages who think they're invincible :whistling: .. p.s it's  but true..!
I thought they loved old cars because if you get a dent they simply right it off and give you 50bob.
Insurance (motor ) is, for the companies, a win win game; too much spent of claims, averaged out over the industry, put up the rates. Have a good year and they simply enjoy the increased profits. (sorry for stating the bloody obvious)
My accident means that the hire bloke has claims on his insurance. So, should that affect my future insurance? I did not make a claim!
My existing insurance on the K is with BMW Insurance via Devitt and underwritten by NIG.
I told Devitt of the accident(thought best) who confirmed : no problem for the rest of this year on the (not running K) but that future bikes would take a hit; GTR possibly £600ish.
However, this would be affected by/dependant upon the total value of my accident claims i.e. the unfortunate, innocent third partie's car and the GTR. Neither of which probably really need to be written off but both of which have been.
Devitt's quick scan of the market also revealed that, unlike the K which is has 2x16mm's chained to two Oxford wall anchors. However, a GTR would have to be garaged! No company would quote for it without garage.
Dis someone say "Bloody insurance companies drive you mad...or words to that effect?
I had the same thing, no garage no insurance cover, and they must be chained up at night with Thatcham approved ground anchor and chain. oooh i wonder who's getting the kick backs then :hammer:
Quote me: However, a GTR would have to be garaged! No company would quote for it without garage.
I would have thought that the two (Thatcham) anchors and two 16mm chains, the bike cover, the 500 watt movement sensor operated out of reach lamp plus the hidden sensors which trigger an alarm in the house plus the alarm on the bike(which I would replicate on any future bike) and the immobiliser plus, and finally, if all else fails, Lottie, who sleeps with one ear cocked, would be safer than some remote lock up garage where I get mugged for the keys at one in the morning but what do I bloody know? I am not a f$*"ing underwriter or actuary so I can't be expected to make an intelligent assesment of the theft risk.
Also, I am a bit miffed that the same does not apply, nor did when new, to my Kbike!!! "No mate no call to nick 'em. :mfr_lol:
Mr Nok12rs..! insurance companies are not concearned about the damaged to a old car, your right they will just "total loss it" and depending what your excess is, you may even end up owing them money. what their more concearned about is what you run into! could be a nice new "XF jaguar" :whistling: p.s even though you have not submiited a claim, its still goes on your driving record. insurance companies share this information, so it allways wise to advise them of any changes that will effect your policy, which I've noticed you've already done
Thanks Mr2Kwaks,
Yes, I thought it better to fess up. But needing to garrage a GTR notwithstanding the security I can provide at the front door.
To rent a lock up around here is very very expensive>
...............and of course day shift guard
I did explain to the nice man on the phone at Bikesure, that in the event someone comes in the back gate, they would have to go past my gym, which has cctv pointing at said gate, the entire garden, garage, and back of the house will light up like Stalag 14 (apparently my back garden can be seen from space on a clear night)..... the dogs will bark like mad.... and I will open the window and my crossbow will chase said bike thief down the path with 22inches of aluminium travelling at 350fps :gunsmilie:
Nope ...still have to have a bloody ground anchor :hammer:
I had an hour on to my home insurers today, all that time to change from buildings and contents to contents only (as ive sold up and going to rent for 6 months).
Dead easy? no, you have to cancel current policy and then sales deal with the new one. But at the end of it i had the same cover for 7 quid a year less!
Good job i can spend an hour at work on the phone!
P
Perhaps a picture of the truly ultimate deterrent is what's needed.
Actually, in all seriousness, would I get way without a garage if I, in addition to all the anchors and chains listed above, I had a sat tracker on it?
