Title: Returning a bike to stock when selling
Post by: Kwikasfuki on March 20, 2012, 02:20:49 PM
I've made a list of items that I need to remove from the bike prior to selling it.
The ones with a question mark is where I'm not sure if its worth removing.
I reckon it'd take me about half a day to remove and put everything back to stock

I'd be inclined to leave the Fenda extender & alarm on but take off the crash bungs. Does this mean it's actually going after the repair?

It took me about an hour to get the hugger off as the bolt under the rear brake pedal to drop the exhaust was being awkward.

Well, its still a good bike and I have become attached to it. However, it'll be soon hitting 50k and given the mileage I do, I think it might be prudent to change sooner than later. Plus, the next service will be due as well as a tyre change. Might as well put that cost on a newer bike.

If I take off the crash bungs it'll leave a gaping hole in the faring. And to be honest, I'd probably go for a different solution on the new model.

I just need to find a decent one locally. I don't think I could go all the way down to Dorset for a bike!

I'd leave on anything that leaves a 'ole if you take it off.... crash bungs and fender ext... most dealers couldn't give a monkeys about bolt ons, and in fact if you have a look at a lot of stuff on fleabay it comes off of part ex bikes.

Smartys GIVI luggage set came off of a bike that was being part ex'ed I asked the dealer why he took it off and he was not shy telling me that he makes dosh on selling the bolt ons then makes more again when his salesman persuade the punter to buy new the very bits he has just sold on :hammer:

Also i'd take the alarm off if you can, as some ppl see them as 'battery draining spawn of the devil'

are you trading in or selling private? if selling private, I would be inclined to list the bike for sale."with or without extras" price  I,ve done this many times in the past with various other bikes I've sold over the years. then nogotiated a price for the extras which was approx half what they cost me. if you remove the extras to sell on, and you use ebay. by the time you pay the listing price, final fee and the hassel of removing and posting. I think it's less hassel to leave them on the bike, unless you know they will fit your next bike! if trading in, then best to remove. but ask the dealer first if he's prepaired to offer more if extras are left on, I did with my 2 last bikes, I removed what I new would sell fast and for a good price, left the other extras on and nogotiated a price of the dealer for the extras, of course! I made sure I got a trade in price for the bike as standard first, ended up getting a better price than original thought for what extras I left on

Remove owt that you can/will use on your new steed, and leave other stuff on the bike, particularly if its removeal leaves evidence which would spoil the bikes appearance

CLEAN IT before p/x   :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
