Title: Gear indicator woes?
Post by: BigAlan on March 20, 2012, 12:14:08 PM
So there i am poodling out of my garage this morning and the bike feels like its on fire, throttle happy, and i noticed the gear indicator is not changing when my foot tells it to, you get the number 1 then no 2 or 3 when you het into 4 it says 2 and 5 works fine, up and down like a yoyo, and the small odo indicator goes missing as well.

When i got to work it was fine and the throttle was silky smooth as usual, i wonder if this is the start of something?

I shall check on the way home as well.

Has your bike been parked up? Mine did that as well when i had it parked up for a few weeks outside in the cold.

It took about a week, but it resolved itself.

Nope, lives in the garage on carpet, but has not been used for five days.

Generally it gets two rides a week.

As with all such computer issues, reboot first, and if the problem recurs then it's a problem.
Reboot is just ignition off and on again.

Did it again on the way home, it's like pick a number and see, time for a trip to the dealer.

My one has been parked up for six months, out for the first time today, no probs and....... IT WAS GREAT! I had forgotton how fantastic a bike this is.

I did run the bike up once in the depths of winter, and the rear tyre sensor battery was showing as low (ok today) and the key fob battery was also indicating as low (replaced before ride)

My GTR is a 57 reg with only 18k on the clock, but it has never had any gear inicator problems, it looks as if the sender on the gearbox is sending duff info, possibly caused by dirt or oil getting into it.

Been to the dealer and it's going back in a week Friday for checks, prob a sensor but they will plug it in and see, they had better be quick as a week later I am off to Germany.
