Yes bloody Salt....again.... note to St Albans Council....STOP SALTING THE ROADS IT'S NOT FOOKIN WINTER!!! :hammer: :hammer:
This is soooo annoying, everytime we get a drop of rain and the roads get cleaned, we have a nippy morning and the stoopid twats send out the gritters... so where were they last aumtumn when it was freezing all day eh?.....oh i know sitting in the sheds just in case we had a bad winter and you ran out....again :censored: :censored:
It seems that the problem is that the herts highways has too much of the stuff now, and have to get rid of it...I know lets spread it on the roads, that'll fuk 'em up grrrrrr.... and i cleaned the GTR yesterday!!!!! :hammer:
Moggy, same old, same old, everyone at this time of the year is doing their best to get shut of surplus cash from allocated budgets etc or stock. It's sickening.
Use it or lose it is usually their policy.
Sorry guys, I don't think any Council is trying to get rid of any salt/grit they have in store - it costs a fair amount of money to send the gritters out plus salt/grit can be stored for a fair amount of time. It also ties up resources for a significant period, not only in terms of going out gritting during the night but the following day when they have to rest and therefore can't do their normal day jobs.
At the start and at the tail end of the winter period is usually the most difficult time for Highway Authorities in having to make a call on whether to grit or not. The weather forecast was probably marginal as to whether there was a risk of the roads being icy or not and given that it takes several hours to mobilise the men , equipment etc a decison has to be made late afternoon/early evening on whether to grit or not. Of course during the night the weather can change and in this case it sounds like it went from a reasonable risk of ice to just being frosty.
Whilst you may complain fairly loudly about it being unnecessary, how loudly would you and others have complained if they had decided not to go out and the roads turned out to be icy??? They made a judgement call and in this case it appears to have been unnecessary on the roads you use but it may have been necessary on other roads.
They have to make a judgement call and becuase it is marginal at the beginning and at the end of the winter tehre are times when they will get it right and times when they don't. Highway Authorities are often in a no win situation at this time of year - they get crucified if they go out and appear to be wasting money if in the morning it was found not to be necessary but that turns into a national scandal if they don't go out and it was necessary - it is always a thankless task
Perhaps also before shouting the odds and complaining too loudly you ought to perhaps spend time finding out what goes on, how the decisions are made in the first place and the consequences of making that decision.
Yeh! So there! You just can't please some folk! Damned if you do and damned if you don't.
I'd have to agree with routemaster
I work for a Civil Engineering Plant Hire company who also provide some of the service for gritting roads, car parks, and pathways, believe me they don't go out spreading if its not considered neccessary as it is very expensive to mobilise staff and vehicles, let alone the cost of the grit, which, I'm told isn't actually as highly salt based as it used to be some years ago.
Councils don't 'spread' just to lower stocks, much of which is kept under cover these days.

Probably not to lower stocks but if an influential councillor happens to own a Civil Engineering company in need for cash... :censored:
One hand washes the other, and after all it's only taxpayer's money. :ohplease:
It still doesn't change the fact that i cleaned the GTR and now it's gonna have to get done again! :hammer: :mfr_lol:
