deliverd a one month old b.m.w 1200rt to the b.m.w dealers today for a warranty claim. while I was there, thought I would I've a closer look at the 1600GTL model. must admit, it's very impressive  but the technician told me there having trouble with electrics on them. water is entering around the seat area and causing serious expensive damaged, at up £20,000 big one's for the top of the range, this as got to have a few owners :sweatdrop: ing..!
2 simple ways to remedy that ... A large dose of ACF50 and don't take it out in the rain !
third option....
BUY A GTR
:mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
deffo :agree: get the gtr all day,,,,any day! lol
If you can't use it in the rain it might as well be a Ducati :mfr_lol:
Take it out in what........?
I remember that there were a number of 'disgruntled' 1600 customers on the BMW forum, complaining about electrical problems, bike going onto "get you home mode" loose components and a number of Sat Nav problems, which surprisingly were because of the old software that had been used
Winston would be able to comment more accurately
Don't know about the sat-nav issues but the limp home mode effected the test bike last year when I was riding it back from the Pyrenees.
100miles at 100mph braked for the Peage and all of a sudden went to limp home mode - overheating warning etc. Turned engine off, restarted and it was OK!!
Drank oil too!
Winny ... I understand the K1600 has to have "special oil" ... obviously ! .... the figure of £27 a litre has been put about ... It's horrendous but I am still drawn to them ... no test ride till I retire so by then it should be sorted !! :mfr_lol:
Dream on :sorcerer: :whistling:

The fleet bike got fed Castrol or Silkolene or whatever was the right grade in the services off the peage!
kiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnn elllllllllll------£27 per litre!!!
Again, there were severaL posts on the BMW forum about how riders were being told that they must use BMW recommended oils ~ available from BMW dealers (of course), or else their warranty could be adversly affected.
Yeah right ....I don't smell a rat....do you

What !!!! they will be telling us to use only "special" air in tyres next or only to wash it with there own blended shampoo ,
It's a wind up!
Here's the thing: the oil recommendation in my manual was not exclusive; buy by the bucket in Halfords. Then, a few years ago. BMW thought up this marketing wheeze with Castrol and lo.......Ye shall henceforth, however old your bike, use our new wonderformulation at 18squid a litre. The bottle actually quotes K1200RS, just in case I tried to squiggle out.
I phoned Castrol for advice on which oil would best suit my bike. The nice man said that according to the data base...... and quoted the oil I had used since day one and continue(d) so to do.
Now; if there was an oily solution to the recurrent gear box failures, I would not be looking to a 1400 GTR.
Moral: It's an ill wind.....
