Title: FI Fault Indicator
Post by: cpettifer on March 14, 2012, 10:50:16 AM
Has anyone else had their FI Fault indicator come on while riding? Mine has come on for a brief few seconds twice in the last week! Nothing for 4.5k miles and then twice in a week suggests there might be something needing looking at?

I'm ringing my dealer about a seized rear shock and dodgy gear shift this afternoon so will mention this too, but thought I'd see if anyone else has had the same problem?

Mine comes on for a couple of seconds every few weeks, then disappears again. No particularly consistent usage pattern or symptom to it, I have just got used to it.

Never affects the riding, never lasts more than 2 seconds.

Martin.

Mine has come on once just for a few seconds didn't make any difference to how the bike was running, and not happened again in 6 thousand miles.

Yep me too . . A few time a month at randon then it stops.  Scared the crap out of me first time it happened.

I had this happen on my last GTR, where it showed for a second or so then went away.

I'm absolutely convinced that in this technically 'modern' world in which we live, that these sorts of occurences are in some way to be expected..and yeah,  I'm being serious.

My Freelander has all sorts of 'bleeps' for this and that, non of which I really need, as I can drive well enough without them.

It's the way things are these days, it may be bloody annoying, but I truly reckon that its to be expected on modern machinery. Obviously if the problem should become persistent then a visit to your dealer to 'lap top' the problem out may be required.  :mfr_lol:

This symptom is known on Honda (especially VFR), often due to an error on rectifier / regulator - mostly because it gets too hot or has poor connection. However, you can avoid electrical fault by separating all major connectors / assemblies and clean them - and use silicone spray. A wonderful job for the winter.

I have examined the location of the rectifier / regulator to GTR1400 compared to the Honda VFR. Its location is optimal with respect to the correct (and probably) cooling. However, I would recommend removing the connectors, clean them and make sure to give them a solid "game" silicone spray.
