Here's a new one on me, I was at a party sat night and just got chatting to a mate of a mate and mentioned I'd been out for the day on my gtr down to essex etc. He then told me he was off to brands at Easter for the BSB. Been going for 28 consecutive years, love it - he recited. Cant be doing with all the hassle to get in and out, so park in a layby and walk in - he says. Oh, what do you ride - I asks..... "no, dont ride anymore, just drive these days". I didn't say anything but that just struck me as weird, or... not right!!
I know bikers, I know (lots of) non bikers, but this was the first guy who (still) loves the biking world, but dont ride anymore. Is he a rarity or are there loads of them about...?
Nah, loads of them about. I know a few ex-riders that do the same as well. It seems there's a period where they stop riding before getting back on again.
Don't think I could ever be a non rider ... no bike in the garage ? Strange ! :cry:

That what I thought too....
Also, why would you sit in a cage in a traffic jam on way too / back Brands H and see all the bikes pass you? Sounds like torture to me!!
Well, I can't understand people paying money to watch some guys riding noisy bikes around in circles instead going for a ride themselves. :wacko:
I personally find it utterly boring. :yawn:
There are lots of non biking bikers I know of a few myself I even know of non biking classic bike club members
They all have their own reasons behind their decision
Personally I too couldn't be without a bike [/b}
We had seven years away from bikes when we were diving regularly. There was no time to do and no way to mix both (apart from when we persuaded a friend to carry our diving gear to Ireland for a diving trip while we rode the bike) and we were diving pretty much every weekend for most of the year. After the bike, a ZZR11, had sat in the garage for best part of a year and not been used we sold it. That didn't stop us enjoying the racing although I have to confess I'd sooner watch it on the TV than at a track.
We bought a Tiger for my 50th present and biking once again became a passion. I can't imaging giving it up again until I'm too decrepit to ride. We still dive but now just recreational stuff on holiday. We were in the Red Sea last October and by about Wednesday of our week away I was wishing I was on the bike; times change.

Very common. Most of them have kids.
Once the kids grow up they start to hanker after the experience again and sooner or later SWMBO caves in and they go buy a ZXCBGS 987 XX-RR and shortly thereafter kill themselves. They didn't realise that bikes have moved on since they got rid of their GS550E.
The sensible ones get some training and buy something "sensible" for the first year. Then chop it in on the bike they really want.
The idiot "Born-Again-Bikers" were the reason why so many of us got shafted by insurance companies in the 80s and 90s.
Eventually the insurance companies woke up to the fact that an experienced rider was safer than an older one.
There are lots like it. I had gap for kids mortgage etc.
I often get old deers come up to me & recount there younger days as pillions & how much they used to love it
