I see the 'Think Bike' advert is back on TV, and not a moment too soon!.. apparently it was very successful last year at reminding Drivers that we have awoken from our winter slumber and will be now be infesting the roads in greater numbers. Thing is, thems in a car get out of the habit of looking about for us over the winter and so in the spring it is doubley dangerous, mind you i find kicking off a wing mirror or two is a good reminder.
I say 'not soon enough' cos in the last 2 days i have been bloody well invisible! and yes i do wear a yellow vest!
thursday i had a mini bus full of coffin dodgers pull on to the roundabout in front of me, i pulled him over and 'educated him in the error of his ways!' :nono:
And yesterday I had a Merc come across 3 lanes and nearly sideswipe me into into the Hatfield tunnel!!! mind you I had my 'Polite' jacket on and seeing as he couldn't read I fooled him into pulling off at the next junction, where i could vent my spleen at him at my leisure :hammer:
Although I like the concept of the advert, glad its back on TV, but I think they could have done a better job of getting the message across
How many coppers are there on this forum? :ninja:
Almost Everybody! :mfr_lol:
Even though my bike is lit up like a xmas tree, there's always the odd idiot that must be absolutely blind

so it does no harm to assume that everyone is blind and hasn't seen you
You probably confuse the buggers.
I still can't work out why such a thing as camouflage jackets for bikers exists. A bike came past me on a local b road recently and just disappeared into the background. I struggled to see him and I knew he was there! He was on a dark green Triumph, wearing camouflage jacket and jeans and a matt black helmet. Oh well you pays your money,

Aye, my view is they are all out to kill me
If anyone wants one I get my 'Polite Notice, Think bike' from these nice peoples, they used to just do the horse ones but have now added a Think Bike one to the range.

Definately look like a copper wearing that
I like that, :mfr_lol: I think that would be prety effective, especially in Bradford.
I thought this WAS a coppers forum !!! :mfr_lol:
The vest that I have got come with a little card saying that it is fully endorsed by the Met... :gunsmilie:
I think this has something to do with the fact that whilst wearing it, one reduces the amount of people using a mobile phone whilst driving...... cos when you come up beside them on a big black GTR, they shit 'em selves and drop the thing in their lap, waggling a finger also helps :nono: *snigger* ..Donc... this is a positive way of helping our wonderfull Police Force to keep the roads safer. :mfr_lol:
ooh and you don't get tail-gated as much either

These are fantastic! But I'd feel guilty wearing one and riding past drivers who'd slammed on and pulled over to let me past at ++legal speeds. :innocent:
Returning to the 'Think Bike' campaign.
I have just been at the Scottish Bike show all weekend and it was interesting to note that every motorway matrix sign on both North and southbound carriageways carried various "Think Bike" safety messages
Good job I say, although I also think it will take a concerted campaign to drum the message home
Likewise too in the South ....A23 to Gatwick .... "Think Bike .. Think Biker" ..as I hack past in the outside lane !! .. always the safest place to be !
Same up here in the dales, and the A1 matrix signs trying to get the message through, and the local papers running stories that now we are coming into the biking season it may be a good idea to keep your eyes open, and be more aware that there are bikes about, and lots of em!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!And then Saturday morning a lass who I work with turning off the main Leyburn to Middleham road, a right turn into a side road, and ended up with a brand new Triumph tiger buried in the side of her car, and both the rider and his wife in the air ambulance. Fortunately news came through on Sunday that both were ok ( relatively) . And yes you guessed it she openly admitted to the police that she had not seen them. When I suggested to her that she had not looked PROPERLY. she said" but I did". !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!How do you combat that?
I wouldn't like to be paying her insurance premiums for the next five to ten years. Thats going to cost her big style. On the plus side in future she's probably going to be very, very cautious at every junction she ever sees.
Never a good sign when the Air Ambulance is deployed. Hope the couple make a full and speedy recovery.
Mogster, just ordered one of the vests. Very good service and friendly. The lady who dealt with me was commenting that they do not just deal with equestrian products/markets and that they are attempting to get through to the biking fraternity also. You can never be too visible in my opinion.

Yup agree with you there, gone are the days of being able to skulk about the open roads in 'sinister black'
the other thing that these vest have are .....'Pockets'! what a novel idea  the one thing that always annoys me about bike gear is sometimes they forget we have to carry 'stuff' about. I wouldn't nessercerly put a wallet or phone in them but they are ideal for popping ear plugs, keys ect in when ya pull over for fuel.
When i was at the bike show this year i chatted with the Oxford rep and asked him why there were no pockets on their hi viz vests...'Don't need them' he said........ :hammer:... so you don't ride a motorcycle then....'no' he says ..figures :censored:
