Hi Guy's,
Has any one had any issues with their lock on the fuel filler cap corroding? And if so, do you think this is covered by warranty?
See Pic
Yep, mine looks like that, but then mine is an 07 plate.
Mine's a 10 plate and kept under wraps... lol Obviously Kawasaki scrimped on the finish of the hidden stuff... lol
As it's going in for the tyre pressure sensors doing under warranty (When the bloody things arrive, 2 weeks and counting!)... I thought I might try my luck with this too. Oh and the brake disks as I hear there has been an issue with them in the past and mine feel a bit "juddery" (if that's a word...)
Juddering brakes and the fuel cap should be covered by warranty
If its corroding you can only ask.
Ok, lets open a book to see if they say "yea" or "Neigh"..... :mfr_lol:
Just noticed one of the headlight bulbs is out... I think that would be pushing the warranty a bit!!! lol Anyone know off hand which bulbs they are? Just though I would look up the price etc whilst I am sitting on my fat ass at work... lol
Not sure of the code, just pop one out and have a ganders.
It's dark! lol
yep ,mine looks like that as well , but then again mine had it fair share of issues ,brakes, poor fitting pannels, centre stand rotting, paint flaking and all this on a 2010 bike thats kept garaged and washed down after a winter ride
I haven't been that unlucky... :sweatdrop:
Just remembered that I have the service manual on my I-Phone. They don't make it easy.. lol I have a choice of:
High - 12v 60 W
Low - 12v -55 w
No mention of side lights though! lol I guess high is high beam and low is dipped.
headlight bulb is a standard H4 from halfrauds, i picked up a bulb kit from there a few weeks back and all the bulbs on the bike are standard car ones apart from the rear which is obv LEDs
I have just seen a pair of Phillips High intensity ones here www.motorbulbs.co.uk which at £32 seem expensive but look seeeeexy.... Might hold on with one bulb and invest in these! lol :biker3:

is one bulb out on a bike lawful, on a car yes, but a bike ??
If you are replacing one bulb, (I don't know the cost) you might consider putting in a pair ofH4Ring Zenon (as previously recommended on here) Its only a ten minute job
They cost me £25.50 and are available from here, and are very good

Do you have to do any conversion, or is it a simple process of swapping the bulbs? I'm crap with electrics...lol
Just reach in and pull headlamp connector off.
Pull off the rubber cover.
Release the spring clip and remove the bulb.
Fit new bulb. fit rubber cover, fit connector.
Repeat for other bulb.
Any H4 bulb will do.
Easy peasy.
If your bike is fitted with 2 headlamps and both are designed to work on dipper beam, then both must work on dipped beam.
Some bikes only use one headlamp on dipped beam but not the GTR.
That said, the chances of you getting pulled for it are near as dammit zero.
As for the corrosion, I am a No vote.
They will claim that you damaged it inserting the key. :mfr_lol:
Dive its a straight forward swap...you can do it ...go on :mfr_lol:
I forgot what this thread was originally about....thanks for the reminder George
I agree with George, and reckon that they will say its key damage
I wouldn't worry about it too much, make sure the lock is lubricated with a graphite lock lubricant, a bit like some f the stuff you can buy here
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=graphite+lock+lubricant&tag=googhydr-21&index=aps&hvadid=15927985668&ref=pd_sl_13khbznz7l_b
And remember when you've washed and hosed her down (your GTR) make sure that water residue is not left under the flap on the tank lock....lift it up and dry it ooff, I use my airline to clear such areas of water 'puddles'
Finally if you have already used something like WD40 on your locks then do not use graphite powder as it will form a gluey, gloopy, gel which is not recommended, in fact WD40 on its own will ultimately attract dust and subsequently form a messy gritty substance on the lock tumblers
maybe change your fuel filler over to one of the alloy machined keyless types.
Makes life at the pumps much more simple

But wouldn't that make it easier for fuel to be stolen from the tank or for scrote to dump crap in there :nono:
the fuel theft thing, I know its a risk, its the first thing everyone says, but in reflection ive never heard of any biker ever having fuel stolen, besides the stock lockable cap is not much of a challenge anyway for a fuel thief. My bike is never left outside and when on a ride out its only ever parked right near to what we are looking at or where we are eating. , if someone ever does nick £10 of fuel from my bike , well thats life , maybe i will put my lockable one back on. scrotes who want to damage your bike just push them over.
Where do you go to fill your bike up for £10? :mfr_lol:
my friend drives a fuel tanker for a well known retailer and gets me 1/2 price fuel in a jerry can.
PMSL :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
It's amazing how threads can go in all directions...
Ok, first things first...I said I was crap with electrice but not a total dumb ass! :mfr_lol: I know how to change the bulbs!!! :smartass:
The reason I asked about the mods was that the link posted sent me to a site for HID kits and at 125 quid, I thought there may be a bit more than a bulb change.... But thanks anyway...
Running on one bulb legal? Hell yeah! Although I wouldn't want to do it for long... :tank:
And now to the original post....the lock.... I regularly keep it "lubed" under the flaps... :censored:
I reckon the warranty would be pushing it but I thought I might as well ask to see if anyone else had an issue and may have gotten away with it. And as it was going in for the tyre pressure sensors (well it would be if they EVER arrive - see previous post)... I thought I would push it before the warranty runs out in May... :mfr_lol:
But thanks for all the posts as they are both informative and entertaining.... :biker3:

I have a spare saucer, can you ask your mate to put some on one side for me and I'll collect it next time I'm passing. Half price fuel, eh! Ah the good old days, when was unleaded last at 65p per litre, 2005 ish?
Yep, about then...
The oil guru's have butt f****d us ever since without lubricant....How ironic is that? :mfr_lol:

Perhaps 1995? It was £1/litre in 2000 with all the fuel strikes.
Nice chart here to play with -> http://www.staveleyhead.co.uk/utilities/petrol-prices/
Edit. My memory must be faulty, this chart says otherwise -> http://www.speedlimit.org.uk/petrolprices.html
How many dives does it take to change a light-bulb? :whistling:

the cost price of the oil is the smallest part , its the governments that are bFing you
Tis true... I think it is something like 67% tax
Interesting charts there, USA still way out front with the cheapest fuel, Norway the most expensive!!
Finally, my tire pressure sensors have arrived so booked in for next Thursday. They said they will look at the lock and disks and give me their opinion. Won't be holding my breath... Lol
