Having experience of the costs incurred when my green '11 falls over can anyone point me at a source of the engine/fairing protectors I've heard rumours about ???
I would like to keep the bike "mint" but it's a heavy old bugger , especially after a fill up.
Cheers .
they are heavy buggers especially if you have to pick them off the deck
look here for some ideas, there are quite a few on the market, and I'm sure others will be able to offer theoir own personal advice on good products

I just have the R&G bungs fitted to mine. Dropped the bike once and they protected the frame fine. My ego however ...
not got any bars on mine, but when i do its going to be the adventure bars

:agree: im with viper on this , my recent slow speed drop would not been so bad if i had had these fitted, maybe next months yearly bonus will sort it
I know some think the adventure bars are a bit ugly, overkill, they are growing on me and id get used to them, great tie down points.
The proper kawasaki sliders are stupid money
I have the R&G Adventure bars fitted to mine and I do like them  they are nice and rugged plus they also come in handy for fitting extras to them ie video mount and a drinks/coffee cup holder - somewhere on the forum are some photos of mine with the bars.
Steve
Ive got the Kawasaki sliders, came with the bike. They are really robust and look o.k. too but they are really expensive, around £350 I believe.
Re the adventure bars, does anyone know how much of the bike is actually protected if it fell over ?
Thanks folks.
Looks like the Adventure Bars are the answer.
Wondering if they have a pensioners discount day (Like B&Q on Wednesdays) ?? :mfr_lol:
Before I was so rudely interrupted...
Popped down to R & G in Alton and collected some Adventure Bars on the 20th.
Started fitting them and was struggling with the 8mm Allen bolts (top front) when I came over all queer . Sat back and the next memory is being in The Radcliffe Heart Hospital. Seems I'd had a heart attack.
Next day , a triple bypass later , surrounded by family and friends and I am totally confused.
Fast forward a week and I arrive home and find a couple of mates also struggling with the same bolts. It seems I need a bigger breaker bar.
So they are still not fitted but can't ride anyway for a couple of weeks and I'm knackered all the time.
But at least I'm not dead - and the bars looks pretty good.
ps. anyone going past junction15 on the M4 with the right tools will be made very welcome. Hate leaving things part finished.
Here's to a speedy recovery. Health is more important than those damn bars
jeez wilts guy, that serious - glad your getting better. I really fancied some of those engine bars, but that does seem a freakin high price to pay.
keep up the convalescing and hope you back to riding again soon....
Hey wiltsguy... sorry to hear you aren't too well...
I hope you have a full and speedy recovery....never mind about the bike....get yourself sorted first
I had a similar problem when I tried to fit R&G bobbins on my 1250 Bandit.
Just couldn't exert enough force to loosen the bolts holding the frame together (also 8mm Allen with long extension).
So I ended up to go to my friendly dealer (M&S Newcastle) and they loosened them for me.
Took the mechanic with the right tools less than a minute and no charge.
Now that's what I call customer service!
Bloody hell, Wiltsguy I'm sure I can speak on behalf of all of us and wish you a full & speedy recovery. I hope you are soon back to doing all the normal stuff, which includes getting out on two wheels. Take care, Steve
get well soon matey! fitted my bars today and it was tight to get them bolts off !looks like they have used some sort of thread glue as it was red/pink all up the threads
Scary stuff, thank heavens that when this sort of thing happens we are living in an age where modern technology and mind boggling advances in medical procedures mean that we are up and living a normal life again in no time at all. Good luck with your recovery.
Hopefully you will have a speedy recovery
I had George (Was) Whites fit my Adventure Bars, they said they struggled with the mounting bolts - a bit of a #o# they said
Kind regards
Steve
tok me about an hour to fit mine being careful and iv not held a spanner since ecu's came in lol
Bloody Ell Wilts ... glad to hear you are OK and on the mend ... lucky someone found you or you were close to someone .... you are a lucky man
I am sure after all that surgery you will mend nicely ... we all hope so !
Sorry I don't have the right tools otherwise i would come up for a cup of tea and a welfare check
Get better soon.
Of those who have fitted the Adventure bars is access to the "tight" bolts through the front easy, ie can you see it and do you have to take anything off?
I ask because if i get some i can nip over my mate's garage and he has ALL the tools to remove stuff but i dont want to spend all day removing stuff just to undo two bolts.
Thanks
Alan
Sorry if I have the wrong thread or you have all seen it but I am sure there was a video posted here last year showing how well these crash bars work ... did you see it ? I think it was in the USA and it shows a Gtr on the centre stand and the mechanic just goes up to it and kicks it over ... the bars do an excellent job and the bike is saved. I am sure it's in here somewhere !

yes you can see it and get to it with a longish extension its a 8mm hex
I still like the look of the Top Block ones and I know from personal experience that the Kawasaki version works very well; I think they were the difference between our first GTR being written-off or repaired.
They aren't cheap but fitting them was easy - I dropped the bike off at the dealer's and when I picked it up later they were on.
Hope you recover quickly Wiltsguy.

Excellent, my bike is doing nothing for a couple of weeks due to a new car coming and golf weekends so when that lot is paid for the bars are next on the
it's.
Thanks
