Ok then, and forgive me Mr Viper for moving on this quickly as it was your suggestion, but we have recently had a few pics of garage rebuilds and insulation going in and general "peeps" of ones garage when taking photos of other stuff ... like flashing lights and extensions and electrical stuff .... so here is your chance to show us all what you have behind that door, or doors, or rolling door or gate or ......
So, leading from the front, here we go .....
Bike, of course, with panniers on for you purists ! .... weights and kit with mountain bike down the side and certificates on the wall ... moving across, Optimate 4, always, and kit on the side hanging up and ready to go ...
Arai helmet and Shoei in the bag ( didn't like it ) with plenty of ear plugs, Garmin Box and a pile of warm weather stuff ... balaclavas and long sleeved tops etc .... then jackets and jeans hanging up and boots on the floor ... it's all hanging on a "BIKER TIDY" that I saw at the NEC bike show a few years ago ... strong metal hangers and shelves, bang it into the wall and everything is just where you want it.
And lastly, look away now Asif ......
So, that's mine .... It would be nice to clear out some of the stuff at the back, wifes' gardening bits and put in some more power for tea and stuff, and, after looking at Coneys recent antics a bit of insulation in the roof etc ..... Come on then ... get your camera out
Just been out and taken a couple with the little Hero Go Pro camera because I thought it would do the job...but they're fairly :shit: really
I'll get some better ones in the daylight,,,and excuse the mess :embarrassed:

my garage is in a bit of a mess at the monent  my eldest daughter as just moved into here own house and I've still got most of her rubbish in mine  but what can one do!! also my garage was double the size than it is now. I agreed to extend our kitchen to more than twice it's size, but because we did not want to loose any more garden we extended into the garage side ways and lenght ways which took approx 12ft square of the garage.

I'll photograph mine tomorrow when it's light but so far I'm disgusted at the tat in Rusty's garage, weights, punchbags, pedal cycle! For God's sake man, get a grip, youv'e got a motorbike, get rid of all that surplus crap......
And as for Old Coneys 'garage'.. and I use the term garage loosely! You could sell that to some Yuppies in London and retire to Barbados for the rest of your life. :mfr_lol:
Coney ... you have it from me ... that is a great garage, a true bikers garage ... lifts, tools, bikes .. it has it all in there !! and that insulated roof !!
2Kwacks the same .. all those wires .. looks like a sort of non bikers torture chamber .. I love it.
Mr Wolf .. you are so right. I have recently taken down, before it fell down, our very old conservatory, or what was really a "lean to", which, as you guessed right, housed my weights, mountain bike and all the other shite that is in there now .... if I had my way there would be nothing in there that was NOT bike related .... flat screen TV with bike videos playing 24/7, posters, tea and coffeee makings ... some mugs ! ... a Chesterfield ..... oh how the list goes on :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
Mr Coney whats that orange skeleton holding the wall up? :undecided:
That's not a garage or a shed...
With a bit of tidying, that's the ultimate Bachelor Pad.
Just need 50" TV, Playstation and Leather reclining chair and I would be in heaven.

Its a 1972 Kawasaki F6a (125cc), which I'm restoring, hopefully to this standard, which is one that I owned before, and then sold to a very nice gallic chap(http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n326/oldeconey/PICTURESIMPORTED1193.jpg) [/b]
Olde, would you mind telling me, how much would you be selling that for in a restored condition (approximately).
And one done, would you be interested in selling?
Neil
They are a bit of a rarity Neil, most people used them as a hack bike and then left then to gently rust away at the end of the day. But they aren't everyones cup of tea and as such not very saleable.
The one you see in the picture was restored to original condition and I sold it for just short of £2,000 about 2 years ago.
The one I'm planning to start work on is planned to be a time filler (when I've got nowt else to do) so probably wouldn't be completed until next year sometime, I have a brand new engine and lots of other N.O.S components for it so it will be a bit special....
Would I sell it.......well I don't honestly know at this stage.

mine use to be a double garage  now all that's double, is the elec door! the wife got her own way eventually, been on at me for years to extend the kitchen into the garage. still room for my 2 bike's and the car "just about" with all rubbish removed that is! and as soon as my daughter moves all her rubbish out, the wife most likely will move more of her rubbish in  so I will be no better off
Ella once asked me what my ideal house would be.
Well, imagine a garage 4 cars wide (4 large American cars), and 2 (large American) cars deep.
Now, park all cars 2 of the front spots for parking cars and 2 for parking bikes.
2 or the rear spots for machine tools (CNC mill, CNC lathe, FloJet, etc) and the other 2 rear spots for workbench and the bike lifts.
Upstairs build an apartment. Don't care about the layout so long as it has a bedroom, living room, bathroom and kitchen.

Oh yes, with you on that one. Don't forget the four post ramp in there somewhere too.
My garage is an utter mess, always is, and always will be due to my pathological inability to tidy it. This picture is a fair few years old now, but it looks just the same these days except with different bikes.

2kwacks, the garage floor is so uneven I dont think either of those would move easily. I quite simply just reverse the bike in and then do about a five point turn in reverse to tuck it in nice and close to the rear wall.
I've done it so many times now it's second nature.
Mr Wolf ... that looks like the black hole of Calcutta !! But, as you quite rightly say .... functional !
Martin ... i don't want to preach or appear job pissed and I know that picture is a few years old as you say but please please please GET THAT LOCK AND CHAIN OFF THE FU****G FLOOR .... that's probably £100 'ds worth of security you have there and the lock is on the floor, a lovely hard concrete floor .... giving Mr bike thief the ideal hard base on which to smash your lock with a sledge hammer and crack it off in 2 or 3 blows .... if you are going to use such stuff then wrap the chain around the wheel or up over the seat or however you want to do it BUT LEAVE THE ACTUAL LOCK up around the top of the tyre or tight around the side ... anywhere other than on the ground so it just makes it so much more difficult to gat the bastard thing off .... it might just put him off altogether ! There ... rant over .... just a bit of crime prevention advice ... hope you don't mind !

Well I suppose its only right and proper I put pics of my nest on here, started life as a side garage but when i extended the house i made the garage double length and put bedrooms above, so it became internal with a door from the utilty room. As a bonus i was able to put a wood floor down , plasterboard the external walls and run a nice big double rad in there and connect the power up to the house ring main. I tend to keep it at 18 degs as i do a lot of project work out there in the evenings .
The last pic is of my charging point for the bike, after having a bad experience with a trickle charger i just monitor the residual volts and when they dip below about 11.5 volts i plug my charger into the loom., which actually is only about twice through the winter .
Security is by way of two thatcham ground anchors and chains with the padlocks off the flloor or difficult to strike at ( :mfr_lol: ) and a disc lock,

100 miles, your pics are either tiny or absolute mahoosive, cant see them either way.
try saving them at around the 800x800 pixel mark, then the site wont compress them
This is the best i am capable of doing but i have requested lonewolf to update them for me . from : :Geoff" I'm 64 , me ya know"
when im taking pics intended for the forums i change the camera setting to a smaller resolution, ie
1m pixels , if you camera is set at full resolution ie 10m pixels then they end up too big on here.
the smaller pixel setting makes smaller pics
nice garage , love the painted walls !
couldnt help spotting the linear electric heater you have fed by the extension lead that is fully wound, i dealt with an insurance job last year where the coiled lead overheated and catches on fire , it was suppling an oil filled radiator .

The only time I have been to the IOM was in 92 when I saw him win the Senior TT on the white Norton ... and he won it by a country mile.
Sadly, he was killed some years later in a helicopter crash on the way home .. all that talent, all that speed, all those miles and he dies in flying accident .... how mad is that ?

"how mad is that" same could be said about barry sheen, all those races, broken bones and near death experiences. who would have thought that the big "C" and not bike racing, would be his demise.
The 'Greenhouse' type heaters are a great idea, I use them under my classics, as they provide gentle heat at a relatively low cost
I agree with Viper though, what you need is a short extension or alternatively to completely unwind that one from its reel.

I know we are going off topic here but as 100 miles has not responded thought id post this . Im a qualified electrician and was helping out at the local school who were holding a bonfire night bbq, I noticied smoke coming from under one of the tables and saw it was a coiled up 25 mtr extension lead with a soup canteen / heater plugged into it . The wound up lead had completely melted and the pvc was almost at flash point. The rcd on the box will not trip out until the bares actually short out, by that time the fire has a hold.

under concrete, in concrete, wet concrete , dry concrete outside inside , all depends but
no reason why not , but depending on the where and the why will depend on the how.
The general safe way is the cable inside a roomy metal conduit,
This is to get power to my shed which is about 1.5m away from the the kitchen.
It would have to go under dry concrete. I assume you just make a cut, lay the wire and seal?

Yes great rider "Hizzie" watched him a lot in his early TT career, but I think the lad had a few demons that stopped him being better than he actually was. But in saying that he had a great career, and was brilliant at the TT. After his death some of his friends build a memorial stone inside a lovely little enclosure, complete with a remembrance book so that visiters can add a few comments. The spot they chose is near the helicopter crash scene that cost "Hizzie" his life, and is set in the most spectacular spot you could imagine. It is located in the Borders a few miles before his home town of Hawick just off the A7, and is well worth a visit for anyone passing through that region, and it is signposted ( By his friends) with small red and white markers on the A7. In fact for the Northern based members it would be a great day out as the ride up there on A and B roads is truly spectacular.
:agree: That would be a good day out for anyone .. I did not know about the memorial .... something else to stick on my "To Do" list !!
You can use Armoured cable but as Viper said, better to use steel conduit.
Cut a slot in the concrete with a disk cutter, dig out underneath to about 6" depth.
Fill bottom 1" with gravel, next 1" with sand.
Lay the armoured cable or conduit.
Add more sand and gravel to fill to original level.
Pack it down hard.
Put in some mortar (3 sand to 1 cement) and press the cut out piece in until level and the mortar oozes out the cuts.
Scrape off the excess mortar and put a board over it for 2-3 days.
Now get your local friendly electrician to come and wire it in for you.
I wired my garage with a ring main, 6 steel cased sockets, and 32A consumer unit.
Had a friend come round to inspect it (he is a qualified Leccy) and he wired it into the house consumer unit via a spare RCD.
We just had to drill a hole in the adjoining wall to feed the cable through.
When it comes to your garage electrics you can never be too safe.
Its the one place you tend to use higher currents (fan heaters, welders, etc) and the most prone to damaged cables.

What width does the disc cutter need to be? I did have someone lined up to do this for me last Saturday but they failed to turn up. I don't mind giving it a go to lay the cabling
can you go around the concrete?
to lay exterior cable is a nightmare in terms of following the 17th edition regs , you are even supposed to lay marker tape near the surface , to do this job to the regs for someone would cost an absolute arm and leg, in soft ground it has to be about 3 foot deep, its crazy.
running usable power into garden sheds can cost up to a £1000 , thats why most just armour cable it them selves !
I have mucho power to the gym at the end of the garden. so i got round the problem of having to get another cable laid :shit: *snigger* for the garage by getting some Light SWA cable sticking one end in a plug and the other end in a 6 way conector, i can run most things at the same time, power tools, lights, heater, stereo etc...
The cable coming from the gym is suspended overhead and the socket it's pluged into has an RCD breaker...
I had an electrician friend come round and test it and it and he said 'fook me  that'll do i suppose' lol.. Captain bodge strikes again!

so everything is running through a plug with a 13 amp fuse?
if you have any cable in the shed such as lighting cable that is rated at less than 13 amp ie 1.5mm then you have a potential fire risk as the cable would melt before the fuse blew.
in any circuit the fuse should always be the weakest part of the link

Lonewolf, your garage isn't a :shit:hole. It's just empty and a bit dirty.
Jetwash and a lick of paint and it'll look much better.
Then you need to fill it with biking stuff like more bikes and bike bits and bike gear.
Resist all attempts by your other half to store other stuff in there.
Cars, paint, carpet (unless its on the floor), washing machines or dryers, are all VERBOTEN, and definately no gardening stuff! :nono:
Finally you need heating, a decent sound system (I use a 6 year old PC with a 5.1 Surround speaker system), and a comfy chair.
Shes sat at the side of me now and the computer says NO!!

well of course! the least eccess there is to a garage the better. you could allways have ground anchors fixed to your garage floor and chain your bike or bikes to it! and use a good quality disc lock and fit a heavy duty clasp and Lock to the garage door or fit a battery or electric mains powerd proximity alarm inside the garage or fit a movement sensor security light front and rear or if your like me and love your bikes fit the lot  mine is a intergral garage with a double powerd "up and over" door  with no windows, and the only other eccess is from my kitchen which the door is alarmed with the rest of the house. when I had my flat roof replaced last year. I would not let them remove the old roof, so they just built another flat roof over the original and made it on a steeper slant, so getting through the 2 flat roofs is a defo :nono: one side of the garage is "obviously" attached to my house, the other side is attached to my neighbours garage which is also a intergral garage and share the same double brick wall separating mine and his garage. the rear wall is attached to my kitchen which has been extended into the garage, the solid wood doubled mortice locked kitchen door is also alarmed with the rest of the house. so the only eccess from the outside is the electric door which as all the chain mechanism attached to the motor winder, so forget about manually lifting the door up! also I've drilled a hole in each side of the door and the steel frame "from the inside" so a long bolt and nut can secure the door and the frame together, also use 2 lenths of 2 x 2 wood which I "sandwich" between the top of the door and the roof beams but only use the bolts and wood if I'm on holiday. also I've the bike's chained together by the front and rear wheels "plastic cover coated chain of course! :sweatdrop: so think it's fair to say you would need to be houdini to escape with either of my 2 beauties

I've corrected it now, the usually mistake when typing fast! but a simple  would have sufficed "WITHOUT SHOUTING" you do know that in computer talk, "capitals or large bold" is considered as "SHOUTING" and considered vindictive and ignorance. if this wasn't your intention, then I opologize for the reply.
Hi 2kwacks,
not vindictive or ignorance, you just repeated the typo, I'm no grammatical genius but bad spelling does SHOUT at me, I dont usually "correct" errors as I know forums are not classrooms
ps I also have ZZR, always hard to know which to take, GTR for comfort+distance, ZZR for sheer power
Coman
I just stick the bike in the garage as shown on page 2 of this thread and then the wife sticks her car in. Garage door, typical type with plastic handle but it is all alarmed.

[/quote] you just repeated the typo, I meant to  just thought I would return the insult  has far the spelling is concerned. I can spell, very good actually  but mistakes can and will be made when typing in a hurry. I've read many posts on here and the spelling has been incorrect! and I'm not just talking about one word either! but as you "quite rightly" pointed out, this is not a classroom or a letter being drafted for a job vacancy. so did not feel the need to check for any mistakes, which is why I don't automatically assume the person can't spell because of a few errors. they may I've been in a hurry or may not even give a :shit:  As far as the zzr v gtr is concearned, well I'm very :undecided: on that point  the zzr1400 is a excellent allrounder, and when I toured the french, swiz alps and italy, I found the zzr1400 to be very comfortable and only lacked luggage capacity  everything eles it dose it with extreme ease, so find it very difficult to separate theses 2 bikes. if I was honest, I would say I preferred the zzr1400 :sweatdrop: infact I've often wonder why I never just bought the panniers and top box for the zzr1400, and saved my-self a shed full of dosh! the gtr1400 is an excellent machine, but so is the zzr. so your right when you say, your torn between the 2 when deciding which one to use, I'm exactly the same on that score  however, both the zzr and the gtr each have there own "ace card" the zzr1400 has ballistic acceleration with supersport handling, the gtr1400 has armchair comfort with wardrope storage

Hi all,
been watching ths thread with great interest as i have recently bought 2009 GTR which the seller had just taken out extended warranty. Although 2 1/2 yrs old their is only 4600 miles on it, technically to keep the warranty i need to get the "big" service done as states so many miles or timethe correct tense is THERE
Hi all,
Been lurking in the shadows while I searched for a pre-owned bike, bid and won zed1000's but he changed his mind and is now keeping it, put an offer in on Bullet's low mileage 09 in stunning silver/grey.
Had it delivered today, Unfortuneately I was at work so could not go out to play till late, quick trip to Sainsbury's for fuel and sweeties.correct spelling is Unfortunately
I bought my 2yr old 4800 mile GTR 2nd hand, the previous owner had just renewed the transferrable extended warranty. only one R in transferable ,
see we all make mistakes , inc me

Hi Viper
Guilty as charged m'lud !!!
ps its Coman, or were you being ironic?
Coman
Coman , conman, just me being blind, sorry , anyway fairplay to you for having a sense of humour, didnt expect you to be so humble
:flowers:
[qoute].. why would anyone get that upset by a bit of poor spelling!
I never got upset about a missplet word, it was the way it was pointed out pissed me off! in large bold with the word access used 3 time's with the word "bloody" added, what was I suppose to think. that comment states to me if you can't spell it, don't say it. if there was an  icon at the end of the comment then I would I've took it has friendly banter  I now realize there was no offence intended and may have took the comment the wrong way, if this was the case! I apologize for the confusion that this has caused. I'm sure you will agree, that this should now be put to "bed"
Hi Viper and 2kwacks,
always hard to convey a sense of humour by e-mail. It was also a pastiche on another posting about quotes from famous films, one of mine is Blazing Saddles where one of the cowboys keeps calling the Mayor(?) Hedy (after famous actress Hedy Lamarr) and he keeps correcting them with "It's Hedley ! Hedley.
As they say, you had to be there (their)

[qoute]... always hard to convey a sense of humour by e-mail."well I can't disagree with that comment, suppose I did jump to the wrong conclusion to fast. I normally give the benefit of doubt to people I don't know or had no contact with before, untill I get to know them abit more and lean how to take them. this has obviously been a misunderstanding, and I apologize for jumping to the wrong conclusion before giving "benefit of the doubt" anyway, I'm sure you and viper have more important things to do than discuss this any further. I know I have, my sock draw need sorting out

ZRX Awesome machine, i had a lawson replica 1100, put an ART Exhaust on it and it sounded propper throaty it would set every car alarm off as i passed, can honestly say mega grin factor, and a bike i too was sad to let go.
zrx is a fine machine, could bloody move as well when it was opened up  fitted braided brake and clutch hoses, front and rear armstong discs and pads, then it was "snapped up" by a freind when I decided to sell. never even got to bed the armstrong discs and pads in  another reason why I sold my bike's, they weren't getting used enough to keep everythink moving! must admit, loved the vn1600 cruiser thou  but to enjoy that to it's full, you need a really nice day and understanding mates
Ok so i a bit late posting on this ,but thats cos i had my little toy in pieces over winter doing a bit of maintenance and as such the place was a :shit: tip , well it still is  but here a few pics of how my garage looks at the moment , i will post pics of the beforementioned bike project in different topic .
Ok then ... with all this talk of wrapping up bikes for the winter I have taken a few pics of "My Other Garage" ... at work, central London. Very lucky indeed .... warm and dry all year round, very secure with plenty of space ...... Looking a bit empty at that moment .. cars and vans all out and about with only a few hardened bikers using their bikes in the winter ...
Usually a bit more busy at the weekends when public transport is not so good and you need a quick getaway in the morning after "Nights" !
The wash bay is good as you can rinse your bike off in the winter .. I tend to take my own stuff for the Gtr .. and then just drip dry ...
Bloody show off! :mfr_lol:
