Light dusting in Hull

weel we have had about 6inches of snow here and we went out this morning in the 4x4, with a smug grin, to take the dogs for a walk.
on the way back we took the usual short cut with requires navigating a short sharp hill, and some berk in a BMW followed us! :mfr_lol: well not fer long, his little face was all crinkeled up with misery as he realised he was now in a dip and stuck!

Yup my bavarian barge is absolute crap in the snow , came home last night like Tokoyo drift
6" in Essex but it's all melting now.
Had to take my better half for an MRI scan in Romford yesterday morning.
Was fun digging the car out, but after 30 mins finally got out of our road (150 metres).
Took another 40 mins to get to Romford @ 30Mph on the A127.
Luckily we'd planned ahead so arrived 30 mins early.
Was passed by a 4x4 twat :asshole: on the A127. Only 1 lane was cleared and I was in it so he was doing 40+ in 6" deep snow.
Why do these 4x4 morons not understand that yes they can accelerate better and with their nobby tyres they may be more in control, but their braking is not that much better, as evidenced by the three 4x4s that I saw in ditches yesterday including a LandRover that was on it's side.
I feel sorry for those on duty yesterday (emergency services :police:, breakdown drivers, gritters) as they undoubtedly had to deal with an awful lot of :asshole: :whistling: :help: :001_9898:
My car is a front wheel drive 3.5litre behemoth which is easy in snow.
Just do everything carefully and the back-end catches up eventually.
4x4 are crap in these conditions anyway.
I would rather drive a front (skinny tyred) wheel drive.
The big 4x4's (Land Rover etc) are way too heavy and once control is lost.............
RAV 4 or Freelanders with monocoque chassis are OK but the best for this weather I reckon would be Fiat Panda 4x4

It's a 1998 Honda Legend.
It's bland looking, about the size of an LS400 Lexus/ 7-Series BMW/ S-class Merc.
Gets 22Mpg  but is comfy and very quiet.
Has 208bhp which is nothing special these days but has some get up and go.
Mine has 134,000 miles and is getting a bit ropey.

Hi Boomer
It is with great interest, that I read your post regarding 4x4 TWATS . I must add that I drive a big 4x4 a Landrover with big nobby winter tyres, special winter settings that assist traction control in snow/icy conditions
However saying that I dont drive like a twat :nono: I too am a class1 police driver, Iam member, Lgv 1,
presently working for the DSA, regularly have updates with driving courses etc, on the contary I carry break down equipment tow rope etc and only recently pulled a stranded car driver out of a snow packed car park
So please dont tar all 4x4 drivers with the same brush

Why is every one an expert police rider driver on here.
I use 4x4 for work as I genuinely need one all year as work with over head electricity.
I have had them all over the years. Landrovers hi Lux range rovers warriors.
Got the best ever had now. Goes any where really light turns on a penny basic & cheap to
Suzuki Jimny.
I've had 4X4s since 1993, its pretty much essential in this part of the world
I don't consider myself a "twat" driver...BTW Im LGV or (HGV as some may know better) too.[/ :wink:b]
Do you drive your 4x4 past other cars while driving in 6" deep snow @ 40Mph?
Didn't think so.
I don't tar anyone with a brush.
If they drive like a TWAT then I tar them by dipping them in the tar barrel, and if at all possible holding them under, whilst describing their ancestry and sexual habits. :gun_bandana:
"4x4 twat" is a twat driving a 4x4.
It doesn't mean all 4x4 drivers are twats,.... or that all twats drive 4x4s.
As for the popcorn,..... yum!
I'm afraid to say so, but IMHO everyone who drives a 4x4 and doesn't need to drive off-road is a twat! :stupid:
Best for snow is a decent Enduro with mud tyres anyway. :biker3:

Up to age 29 I used to barely weigh 9st soaking wet. At age 39 I weigh 13st and can't shift the damn weight.
Anyway, as this thread is :offtopic: I will now bring it back on topic (not for long I doubt  )
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wear-16952926
Sadly the reports are accurate, cos here, in slippin and slidin Cumbria, the conditions are bloody horrendous, classic black ice which you just cannot see, one minute all is ok and wet roads, the next sheet ice, its gotta be the worst stuff to drive on.
I drove into town this morning and a young female absolutely flew past me in her car on a small section of by-pass, my temp guage read -3c and it was actually raining at the time.....now when I went to school those two constituents meant only one thing, ICE, the silly bugger was lucky not to end up in hospital [ :popcorn:/b]
..... And here we are 3 weeks after Coney reporting ice in Cumbria and my garden is going mad in this very early Spring weather .... what is going on ? How can there be such warm weather in Feb/March ? If this is Global Warming then bring it on ! :mfr_lol:
I have been painting the outside of the house on days off over the last couple of weeks ... nearly finished, and cracked on with some early gardening this morning ... these are out already .. nice me thinks ..
Rusty, nothing to worry about, I know B&Q do a good range of garden products, pretty confident you'll get some weedkiller there for those unsightly intruders!

There should be a national water grid so that all the stuff we've got lying in the fields up here in The Lake District, can be drained via a network of pipes etc., so your part of the world can have a drink on us.
That's about the only time you'll get this Yorkshiremean offering a free drink :mfr_lol:

Well here we go ....
hopefully for all of us ... a warm few weeks to get Spring off on the right foot ! Check out the weather forcasts and they all say that the next few weeks will be dominated by High Pressure over the UK, which can only mean settled dry and warmish weather .......HOOOORAHHHHH
Today was cool but sunny, and my son needed to air his SV 650 so we went on a 70 mile round trip around Derbyshire. It was bril. Hope the weather holds, sod the rain.
Hosepipe ban now...sos we'll have to be cleaning 'em with our own spit :sweatdrop:
Crikey ... The front page of the Daily Torygraph is showing a photo of a family stuck in their caravan because of the snow at Marfit Head Farm near Pickering North Yorkshire ... 2 weeks ago it was nearly 19 degrees there !!!
On the Sussex Coast, yesterday was just great doggy walking weather... bright sunshine no cloud no wind ..just lovely ..today ? Cloudy and much cooler but not bad .... You Northern Boys pay dearly sometimes for your fantastic riding scenery.

It looks good with the boxes on, I trust they will be holidaying with you in the Cotswolds?
What am I going to put in them Mr Wolf ?? I am only staying one night .. the Saturday ... so just a few bits are required and I,m coming up from work after either "lates" or a night ... I shall be pannierless I suspect !!
The panniers are an integral part of the bike, even if they remain empty that doesn't matter. Just give them a day out instead of having them cooped up in your posh southern garage.
:mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: You do make me laugh mate !! Maybe just for you then
Thank you.
It does look great, the Kwak I mean. The box problem is one of self control: when so accustomed to passing through small gaps whilst filtering in (any) big city, you have to remember the luggage.
I took mine out in town for first time, fully clad with boxes, on Monday, and found myself being a car. :single fuck: :single fuck:
However, after a tentative first couple of miles, the old commuter urge was back....and so was I
I got forced against a still-stand car on my side by a m.f. coming towards me and leaving a car's width on his near side... fortunately, no contact. Onward and upward for the open road.....
The luggage mitigates the K13's ugliness and puts me in mind of that woman (you have all been there) who on the face of it (so to speak) is quite ugly and yet exudes a certain(irresistable) sex appeal......and did not disappoint
So, just waiting to be ordered off to the :single fuck: ing K site. Problem is, I like it here
You can stay as long as you like mate ... glad to hear all is on the mend ... and as I have said here before ... not keen on "the slab" sides .. but ohhh what a bottomless pit of fun
Appreciate it Rusty ..thanks.
P.S. me neither; the slab sides I mean :mfr_lol:

It may well polish out but they are going to have to replace that wing mirror and the door that it was attached to.
I'm told that those Merc mirrors with the built in indicators cost £1000 each.
"No Officer, I lifted my foot to avoid it being crushed by the Merc driving dip :shit:."
"I would never deliberately kick someones wing mirror off when they tried their damndest to kill me"

That must be why they can't afford a hand brake (not that old rant I hear you cry).
Back on topic, wet all day here and also at the appropriately name Lightwater, where it grey-drizzled all day and I attended the funeral of a wonderful lady (84) and celebration of her life.
She rode a Norton on honeymoon, to Italy with hubby on the back. They don't make em etc.....

Whatever you do have a great weekend.
isn't it a little early in the day to be taking LSD...
Ah well, I was :mfr_lol: full of the joys of (very wet) Spring). No LSD just not enough wine last night so clear head full of good positive thoughts. :mfr_lol:
Off to take Lottie for a splash in the mud.
Good wishes still apply

O K Roger, We should still be there at 11 bells, as yet no plan, but will see what the troops say in the morning.

I'll be on a GREEN GTR :mfr_lol:
Poxy weather... :hammer:.. i'll tell you how bad it is... I've just ordered some textile gear.... i fookin hate textiles, but then again damp leather's not plesant and by the looks of this at the mo...'to ride is to get wet'
Mogs, I used to ride everywhere in one piece leathers.... until I expanded or they shrunk :mfr_lol:
Textile is definitely the way to go...the jackets and pants have things called pockets and they keep ya dry and warm
Leathers ALWAYS shrink when you get older !!!!!!!! :mfr_lol:
Oh goody... a months rain in 24 hours forcast fer the coming day :hammer:
At least its not been raining here past few days. Cold but bearable
My textiles have arrived....... along with the bag to hide my head in...oh the shame!!

I have just tried them on and they are, just as i thought, utterly horrid... I seem to be the wrong shape fer these things, but if they keep me dry over the weekend i shall be less grumpy than usual..
Its pissin down in Stockport. Better than snow, please let it be nice for next weeks NW200. At least I have textiles to keep me dry.

I got caught in that on the way home. Put the new Rukka gear through it paces.
Got caught out in the rain this afternoon too, on my way back from Scotland. Glorious sunshine all day and then just got off the M6 heading back to Skipton peeing it down big style. Trussed up in my textiles though Mogster and bone dry.
Matched up my three year old rukka trousers with a jacket from their "economy" range. List £650 but end of stock clearance at Infinity Clapham meant I paid £450. Gave it a 120 mile wet test in Sussex on Sunday.......Brilliant. Nice contrast; black against the H Sam.
(Pensioner kit?)
Good to hear that .. you know how much I love Rukka .... I deal with Infinity at Great Portland Street and have always found them to be most helpful ......
ooh...I wonder what that might be.....surely not the rain! :hammer: which means that they will be ringing me soon to tell me the GTR's done... and i have to go to watford on the excuse for a loan bike...... i've seen better maintained bikes at the bottom of the canal.

I recommended them to a mate who went yesterday and left in disgust for H G just down the road He had a great experience and spent a heap of dosh!!
Wrong bloke at Infinity! As in any customer facing business, bike dealers etc, the owners just don't know what goes on.
But yes; great kit.
RAIN!!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! :ohplease:  :boat:

Ok ... staying with the weather topic / thread ..... here are a few piccies, some taken last year just to remind us of the snow ... do we need reminding ( ??????? ) and the cold cold weather ........hope you like ..
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n531/NigelCooper/CampingIOW06001.jpg) Taken at the top of Cissbury Ring .. an old Bronze Age Fort near Findon .. about a 10 minute drive from me ..
lovely views onto the South Downs ..bitterly cold but in the spring and summer a delightful place to take dog
and a picnic
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n531/NigelCooper/CampingIOW06005.jpg) Mr Rusty wrapped up against those cold elements ....
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n531/NigelCooper/CampingIOW06100.jpg) Just by the car park at the bottom of The Ring there is a lovely walk up to the path .. it's always UP ! As you Northern Contingent know with your scenery, it is always different, no matter what time of year or how many times you go to the same place there is always something else going on !
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n531/NigelCooper/CampingIOW06116.jpg) A little further along the same path .....
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n531/NigelCooper/DSC00025.jpg) You will always find one of these
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n531/NigelCooper/DSC00026.jpg) Of course if one gets tired of going up hill, stick to the flats on the beach .. 10 minutes the OTHER way but just as cold !!
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n531/NigelCooper/CampingIOW06022-1.jpg) And for your final delight..... a very chilly dawg ..... she doesn't care how cold it is ... she just loves the water, salt or fresh, warm or cold it matters not !
Stunning photos there. I like the snow scapes, the sun set and the doggy one. The pic with that bloke on frightened me a bit though.
Is she a Border Collie?
Oh yes .. pure Welsh Border Collie
Brill pics Rusty, I got a shiver when I saw the snow scenes

Asif & I had a decent 200+ mile trip out to Whitby today, photos to follow.
Well, it's forecast for 94F here today in Bakersfield, California. :sweatdrop:
I spent the weekend riding with some good friends on great roads.
Saturday Jim Pavlis took me on some local twisties near Paso Robles.
About 140 miles and some real fun roads. 102F and glorious sunshine.

On Sunday Linda, Eddie, Jim and I rode up to Carmel (of Clint Eastwood fame) and then back down the Pacific Coast Highway to 46 and back to Paso Robles. 280 miles and some spectacular scenery.
I borrowed Linda's old '95 GTR1000 (the Burgundy one with the white saddle) for the rides.
Jim was on his C14 (1400GTR), Linda on her ZZR1200 and Eddie on his C10.

Weather Forecast
The Indian Chief thought that it was going to be a bad winter so he sent all the braves out to collect wood. As he watched them return laden with timber from the forest he suddenly felt that he ought to check his forecast so he phoned the local met office.
"Tell me, is it going to be a bad winter?"
"Yes" said the forecaster " it will be a bad one"
So the Chief told the braves that they didn't have enough wood and sent them back into the forest again. They returned with more wood but once again the Chief had doubts and he called the forecaster to confirm.
"It is going to be a really severe winter" replied the forecaster.
The Chief look at the wood store, decided that more was required and the braves were dispatched back in to forest. The Chief called the forecaster.
"Are you sure it's going to be a really severe winter"
"Look" said the forecaster "its definitely going to be the worst winter on record - the Indians are gathering wood like crazy!""

Well, the sun has gone behind a small cloud, thank god! The temperature has dropped to about 34, so I may just take this opportunity to venture out and treat my trusty steed to a nice jetwash! :biker3:
Now, let me think..... Why did I leave the UK? :whistling:

oooh still my beating heart.. :hammer:
Ferk me lads, It's all just part of what we get. It's weather , that thing that every single person on the planet today has to deal with on a daily basis. Rain will not make you disolve. For gods sake stop bleating about the weather, there are millions of people in the graveyards, that would just love to ride a motorbike in the rain.!!!!!!!!!!!Rain !!!!!!!!!!!!Should't stop you getting out on your bikes. Unless of course you are a soft arse.
it's not the riding - it's the cleaning the shoite off afterwards!
And drying the sodden kit too!
OK when it turns nice, dries as you ride but a bugger when it's constantly damp!
I don't mind riding in the rain cause the bike doesn't get cleaned afterwards anyway.
Today, blue skies, was contemplating going over the A roads home. Thankfully I didn't. Got to J22 fo the M62 west bound and the blue skies disappeared. Absolutely soaked in the 10 mins it took to get home.

Where are you Pistole? No location in your profile and you are not on the Member Map.
Actually we don't have the worst weather but we do have some of the wettest weather in the western hemisphere right now.
The climate in the UK is usually rather mild.
Normal years it never gets over 30C or below 0C.
We generally don't get tornadoes, hurricanes, or other extreme weather.
However, the last few years have not been normal.
3 months ago we had droughts declared over most of SE England.
Now we have flooding and much sogginess.
...........and it gives us plenty to talk about
Well, if you want to come over here and get soaked in sweat rather than rainwater.... The Dolomites are an hour or so up the road... 37°C today and I just took the trip to Torino and back in my car (for business) - thank god for air conditioning....
It's the complete opposite problem here... Maybe there is an Italiano member (who doesn't ride out in a T-shirt) can offer some advice about how to keep cool in this ridiculous heat?
I did find a shop not far from here that stocks a fairly reasonable selection of mesh jackets. Anyone got one? (stupid question, I guess.....)
Fortunately, I can hear some clouds rumbling so maybe there'll be a little respite this evening!
Heh - I just had a little chuckle - My sis is off for a week riding the Wild Wild West thingy with a bunch of other like-minded Harley owners. They have issued a severe weather warning...

She'll be doing Death Valley National park at 49°C :sweatdrop:  :sweatdrop:

Rosbif .... don't know the make of it but a friend at work uses a mesh vest with armour .. I believe it's a mountain bike sort of thing under his Hi Viz long sleeve jacket and, according to him its excellent .. but only when it's hot ..which isn't often !
Spada, do a brill Mesh jacket, tis half leather half mesh... nice and cool on them odd hot days but also gives bags of protection should the worst happen.... comes with armour as well :gunsmilie:
Rusty - There is plenty of Moto Cross kit out there - UFO, Foxx etc which is as you describe.
I use a Hein Gericke full mesh jacket all year round and layer for warmth/waterproof (same with pants)
As Mogs says Spada, do likewise and the wife has a Weise jacket similar too.
Ah great! Thanks :)
I shall check them out!
Hope your weather changes soon... Btw, this t- storm didn't happen... It's still sweltering!
Found a great bike accessories and clothes shop nearby. Will take the missus there this weekend :)

There are three Autoglym products I use, first the washing type, then the standard polish then there is a super resin polish which you have to leave on for an hour, gives a hard shiny finish.
Best on black ones tho.
Alan
BA ... I am with you on this ..Auto Glym is just so good ... the hard resin polish just finishes the job nicely .. then perhaps spray a bit of AG Instant Tyre Dressing onto a cloth to go around the edges of the PR3's ... for that extra finish ..... :tt1: :tt1:

I always expect the signs on the M11, M25, etc to say
"Welcome to Essex"
"Home of Shit Drivers"
Or maybe "Visit Essex, get cut up by some twat in a Ford"
Me, I heads for North Essex which has some scenery and semi-decent roads.
Great Leighs - Felsted - Dunmow - Finchingfield - Braintree - Great Leighs is a favourite loop.
However, the best single road is Latchingdon to Bradwell. BANZAI!
Suffolk is OK as are parts of Norfolk but other than that the nearest stretches of fun roads with minimal traffic are in Wales or Yorkshire.
