do they actualy make any difference? I am 6' tall.
yep they do...However it depends on which aftermarket screen you choose.
I have the standard screen on mine which is the same size as the K accessory 'bigger' screen from previous models
I'm 6'2" but don't mind the wind in my hair...If I had any ;D
if you dont fancy a screen that is 7ft tall, look into the vario screen with the built in spoiler, ive got it and it seems to be a good improvement over the stock
And bigger screens seem to put more strain on the lifting mechanism so it breaks after a while.
slightly shorter than stock so looks less like a scooter :)

It depends on what you want from a screen.
I like to have low noise and zero buffeting when on long runs.
My CalSci +6" (old model XL) is about right for me.
Screen down the air hits me mid-chest, screen up it's just over the top of my lid.
It's SOOOOooooo much quieter with the screen up.
In the summer I fit the OEM screen as it gives more air to help keep me cool.
As for the looks, who cares. So long as it's not outright ugly I could care less if people think I'm on a scooter or not.
They soon learn the "not" as I effortlessly waft past them. ;D
Depends what you want in a screen. I've come to the conclusion that at 6'6" tall I'm probably always going to have to compromise on noise / turbulence as anything that puts wind over my head is going to be HUGE. I've tried the latest XL Calsci and hated it. It was noisier than stock on all but the highest position for me and that was just horid low booming noise, which I figured may end up being worse, plus I was partially looking through it, so the top of the screen was a distraction.
Anyway, I hasten to add Heroblobs were brilliant and took the screen back. I've swapped it (plus refund!) for a Laminar Lip, but it's still in the packet unused at present. I'm waiting for some cleaner / drier roads before trying that out now, so I don't get it all covered in crap while I play with it in various positions.

Don't know where you are but if you want to I have a stock 2011 screen, a Cee Baileys Euro Cut and a Calsci L you can try if you want. I've tried loads, now settled on the Calsci in the winter, less noise, more coverage. Cee Baileys in the spring/summer. Puig was good everywhere bar the motorway. Fancy trying the new bigger MRA Vario but you've got to stop sometime.
Oh I'm 6'3"
mmmmmmmmmm :o I have looked at loads of forums around the world and supprisingly there is no definitive answer! rider of the same size on the same model swearing by different screens. ::)
Here's the ones I've tried.
MRA Vario
Kawasaki touring
Cee Baileys Ultra Tour
Calsci XL
Calsci L
My favourite is the Calsci. At the moment deciding between the XL and L

I had a GIVI screen on my last gtr it has a flip at the top and is 3" taller than the original and 5mm thick, it was excellent, even though it was only 3" taller the slight flip made a big difference i would recommend it.
Having said the above the screen is in my garage and in perfect condition, it only cost £85 too. i now have the new model so it is surplus to requirements. Should anyone want it PM me
Using the Calsci XL 6" 2' and it works for me ....
I ahve a 2011 bike with a laminar lip on, i am 6' 3" tall and this suits my needs very well, especially yesterday when i did almost 200 miles on the bike in the cold.
Alan
I'm satisfied with the standard screen on my 2011. But I'm only 1.75m tall and just manage to get both feet on the ground. :whistling:
I've got a large (CalSci) one :) & at just under 6' I have to duck an inch for perfect quiet. Depends what your body (bit stuck out in the breeze) / leg ratio is.

Note: We have recently (6/2010) revised the names of our Concours shields - what used to be called our Large is now the Medium, no other changes; what used to be called the XL is now the Large, no other changes. We have added a new XL shield for taller guys.
Heroblobs come recommended for their service to me. I bought my CalSci from them, test rode it with the cling film still attached and didn't like it. He was happy to give me a full refund, so I got a part refund and Laminar Lip (which I'm yet to try).
Have ordered a Calsci XL today  at £175 lets hope it does the job
I'm using the standard 2010 screen, (the taller one for older bikes) To be honest its ok most of the time for me (6ft) no buffeting but a bit noisy. I have fitted a laminar lip which has now improved things to the point where its as quiet now as you can reasonably expect and with no buffeting, so result!!!

will keep you posted
Glad yoiu got sorted Kwakomo, and I hope the screen does the job for you
I have just been reading 'Ride' magazine (cos its snowing here now). and saw a letter from a reader complaining abpout wind protection on his GTR, he has fitted a Puig Screen, which to be honest I hadn't heard of before and he reckons its sorted tghe problem for him
I may just be of some interest to others on here ..so here's a link, I believe M&P are stockist, but I'm not sure

Screen fitted, it does not look to big for the bike something I was worried about. Not going to be able to test ride due to the weather but as soon as I can I will post up my findings.

maybe you could post some pictures too ?
Oh yea ... must have piccies
Been out all day today on the bike  The screen is an improvment, fully up at 60mph fantastic, any faster needed to lower it due to bufferting. Noise is not an issue really as I always use plugs. The only thing I had trouble with really, I found myself looking at the top of the screen, no idea why, I seemed to do it more when in the twisties having a bit of fun. overcome it by putting the screen to the bottom and tucked down behind it.
I think as I am new to the style of bike things like that I will get used too.
Can I say the new screen was worth the money???...................................... not sure
Screens will drive you daft, 'till you get it right. £175 is quite alot to be 'still not sure' MRA Vario was my choice, and has proved to be ideal ( for me) xx
I'm not un happy with the screen, just not sure exactly what I should expect. I find the larger screen ok and better than the standard one so spose it is worth the money. time will tell, got the first euro tour of the year next month should be a good test
Kwakamo, I know just what you mean, as different riders have different expectations of their screen, should it be whisper quiet behind it, or is it acceptable to have some wind noise/buffeting.
I tried a 'Visor' on my last GTR and to be honest I really don't think it made that much difference, and I was careful to get the fitting dimensions correct
If I had any hair I suppose I could say that I like the wind in it....BUT.................... :mfr_lol:
olde coney, yeah, agree all down to personal choice  another thing I didn't like to much was when I had the screen up at reletively low speed, I had no feeling for how fast i was actually going, must admit I don't like it too quiet
