Title: KEY STUCK
Post by: zedmeister on January 30, 2012, 08:17:29 PM
I was out this weekend and stopped a to have a drink, i needed to get into a pannier but the key would not release from the FSS position,( second time this has happened ) i tried several times but no joy, but it would turn all other way and start as normal. I eventually got home no problem turned the key to FSS and it released as normal. this is my third GTR and the other 2 i had no problem, i have only had this one for 3 weeks i dont want to go to the dealer if it is just a quick fix, has anyone had the same problem ???, if so what was the fix if any.

I think they can be a bit finicky which is why I never bother using mine.

I have one cut specially and don't use the stove one. You might have the infamous Kipass issue only at the FSS position

I have some sympathy with you Zedman ... my key sometimes feels "stuck" and I can't get it out with a naked hand, but with a glove on I seem to be able to get a grip of the key and out it comes no problem ... I have put in a little bit of oil in case it is becoming stuck, but generally it is ok.

I always use the spare key to open the panniers or the fuel cap and leave the main key in the lock.
But if you don't have the spare with you there is another spare key in the back of the FOB.

I don't recommend using WD40 in the ignition switch.  :nono:
You are better off using one of the specialist graphite lube sprays as they won't accumulate dirt in the oil.

The more you use the "top hat" the easier it will get.
I use mine every time I fill up but don't use for the panniers or seat.
For that I have had a key cut that lives on my key ring along with the topbox key, security lock key, house and garage keys.
