Post by: O.C. on January 26, 2012, 02:48:48 PM
I just got a txt from a certain BMW dealer in Shipley..04/02/2012

"9 new models..Free Bacon Sandwich & Hot Drinks...Test Rides available..call to book now 01274 535484 "

you could call in and let us know what you think,

Just thinking, I might even call myself  ;D

Go on Mr Wolf ... after your bacon butty take a K1600 out for a test ride and then have another one when you get back .... I love my GTR to bits but I am taking Winstons' advice .... "don't ride one" ... I have no doubt it's as good as he says and I can't justify buying another bike !!!!  ;D

I fancy the bacon butty aspect, but not the BMW side of the deal. I have said this before and I shall say it again too many friends have had MAJOR issues with the brand and I dont think that having the best after sales setup in motorcycling can mask the fact that they appear to lack in built quality, and reliability.

Could not agree more, the best (actually ONLY) good thing about my local bm dealer IS the free coffee and donuts. As they treated me so shabbilly I now enjoy a trip to them (its a nice run, otherwise I wouldn't do it) help meself, then as the salesman heads over to me, jump back on the gtr and toodle off ;D

it would take more than a free bacon sani and a mug of tea for me to splash out £20,000 "with all the toys" for a bike I don't consider to be any better than the gtr1400 for dam well near half the price :)

Couldn't agree more.  I took one out for a test drive before xmas, gave it back and told the sales guy "good but nowhere near worth the price difference between the gtr and the beemer"

Wait for the 2013 gtr.  I reckon we might get a nice surprise with the new model.

You need a couple of day on the 1600 to understand it.

When the penny drops it makes sense.

FYI My choice would be the GT, not the GTL which is a couple of grand less anyway.  Be about 16.5k which with the extras over the GTR isn't as horrendous as 20k.  When K put cruise control and heated seats etc. on for the same price (13.7k?ish) it will be comparable.

Similar market but the GT/GTL are knocking on Gold Wing terratory (but not quite - hard to explain without riding the bloody things!)

Put it this way - The GTR is staying in my possession for quite some time in the future.  I love it!

Well I thought the opposite when I took the Triumph Sprint GT for a test ride last year.
I didn't see the point in forking out 10K for the Triumph if for 3.5 K more I could get a GTR.
Don't be too convinced that I would say the same about the GTR and the Beemer, though. ;D
