Got my reminder, phoned up, asked if that was their best quote, and after about 30 seconds, they re-quoted £50 less. The morale of this storey is ' don't accept first quote' shop around guys. Mine is with Carole Nash. Best 10p phone call i ever made xx
Always the same, thieving swines, I always get multiple quotes every renewal.

I aint rich so I must have been a fool as I always used to just renew without question. It was just easier this way...not any more though, I always shop around these days.
It definitely pays to shop around..I just saved nearly £200.00 on my car insurance !!!
And got a fee Meerkat in the bargain ;D
How much are you guys paying? Area? (A to F) Age? I've got my 2011 GTR and my GSX-R 1000 for less than 300 with Adelaide had to drop value to 10k. Area C I think, 51, garage about 7 years no claims, IAM RoSPA
Dont know about area code, but my post code is DL8, 10 years no claims, garaged, 64, 500 sqid excess, value 12 grand,(1st sept 011) 011 bike, 204 . 14p. And I never renew without giving them some lip, and playing one off against the others. :)

Wow, that strikes me as very good. My GTR, ZX10R and a Triumph always cost me £800+ on a single policy, no matter how much I look around. Same no claims and IAM as you, but maybe my 39 years young marks me out as a high risk hellraiser ;D
Martin.
I'm insured with Highway through MCE..fully comp SD&P for £163.24, named rider + pillion, I have 9+ years no claims, Bike is securely garaged, my age is 60..RAC roadside rescue is included as is continental travel. No protected NCD.
They did try and rip me off £88.13 to transfer my personalised plate onto the bike, which I 'negoyiated' down to £43.13 >:(
Yes Martin its plainly obvious that you are a daft ,young madman looking to splatter yourself against the scenery and cost your insurance company millions. ::) ;)
I've just gone through the same agonising process. I have 3 bikes, 1990 GSXR 1100 (had this 18yrs) 2002 XR650R and my 2011 GTR. The renewal was £782 with Aviva. I'm in an ok postcode and get police advanced biker discount, which is worth a few bob. All are fully comp, datatagged and alarmed and I'm 42 Aviva is through carole nash.
I called bennets, they wouldnt quote because 2 high risk bikes on one policy is a no, GSXR and XR are high risk. GTR on its own they said was £93. WTF? GTR is worth 12k being only 4 months old, GSRX 2k and xr 2k.
Ebike quoted £595.
Phoned Carole Nash back and Aviva wouldnt budge, they put through a specialist quote for low risk riders but high risk bikes.....£565 with the usual breakdown etc.
Funny thing is in the renewal carole nash said this was their cheapest and best quote...........the fibbing gits.
Pays to phone. ebike was on tintrenet and was good value with a good site.

I am in the A category of insurance and always get Internet quotes and for the last three years quite carol has been cheaper via the internet so that's where I go, last year the letter came with the policy asking for proof of no claims bonus and who it was with so I called then to say "it's with you".
Had to pay £70 to the current policy which was a sprint in Sep so will be interesting to see what deals are around in March for a 55 year old with no points come out at.

Scotty, I have a couple of classic bikes insured here

I've always found them to be very helpful and competitively priced, if you are stuck they could be worth trying
Good luck
No surprise for me my postcode is band F! :'(
I have a BN postcode down here in Sussex, 11 plated bike, 48 yrs old, garaged no points etc etc with 30 days Euro Cover and £500 excess, some legal stuff with RAC ... £320 ... which to be fair with out the add on was around £260 ... either way I look at it as all year round usage for less than a pound a day 8)

I'm 45 with 3 years no claims and live in CW11 1. The GTR is worth about 7k and is garaged. I've renewed the insurance today with Carol Nash. The initial quote was £385. Following a phone call and some minor and honest changes to mileage, etc, they knocked £50 off.
I got another quote for £311 from the internet but this did not include European breakdown, which the Carol Nash one does, so I'm happy with that. Carol Nash is a relatively local company for me and when I fell off my VFR 3 years ago their breakdown and customer service was very good. That makes a difference to me too.
I also use a cash back website (http://www.topcashback.co.uk/ref/1262769344) for all insurance enquiries, amongst other things, as this can sometimes add another £30-£30 off which makes a difference. Finally, it sometimes pays to go to the same company through the internet sites, but as a new customer, as they will sometimes give you a discount as they think you are new business. Doesn't always work but it can be used for bargaining.

Pretty much the same as you, 2010 gtr + 2011 V strom, dunno area but both garaged - with Adelaide and IAM and £260, BUT I also shopped around and C Nash was DOUBLE - so I went thru the quote with a fine tooth comb (no longer needed on hair) to make sure it really was like-for-like, and it was - Ps 6 yrs no claims

CW11 is a type "A" area i.e. cheapest, I suspect you could get a better deal :-) I pay less for 2 bikes. Any IAM / RoSPA ? Garaged?? I must admit I buy European Breakdown cover when I need it.
insurance companys :asshole:,was insured through carol nash after hearing a few storys of people i know who were insured with them having accidents,(own fault,an non faults) a few complemented them on there service etc,and loved the thought that if anything went wrong ,,,,,,,,they would get you n ya bike home!!!!.
having had my diesil spill accident, went down to 1yrs no claims,,,renewal quote of £220 full comp for honda vfr800 vtec,,,,rite eoh i thought, still thinking of the get me home aspect of it,anyway about,3 months into the policy i bought the gtr!!!!!!,they wanted £680!!!! not for the policy but on top of what i had already paid them!!!!!!!,so i cancelled the policy, went on mcn web site got same policy but without home recovery for,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,£239.00!!!!!
so me an aunty carol aint on speaking terms, :gun_bandana: :gun_bandana:an considering when you go to the shows and see there stands n shit they got,,,im no longer prepared to help pay for it,,,, so *uck ums my motto
Screw Carol Nash. They still haven't given my free R&G protectors for taking a policy out with them.
Mine is up in early March ... just had an offer from the RAC for the breakdown / recovery side of things @ only £6 a month which they reckon is a 50% saving ..... I have not called them yet but I think my RAC car cover covers my bike or am I wrong ??
When I go online to seek out my best ins deal I wonder wether any of it will be cheaper than the £72 I would spend with RAC if it were included in or with the policy as so many of them do these days. My gut feeling is that I will get a quote with everything thrown in ... legal aid, recovery etc and even if I say "take off the recovery" I don't think it will drop by £72 ... let's wait and see shall we ... keep you updated !
My insurance is also due late March, full no claims, no points, low area for insurance. garaged and I need Euro cover, Auntie Carol has been the best for the last few years after doing the usual online quote, we shall see and I will advise.
oh, and an old git at 55
Alan
hi guys,
as for rac/aa cover,,,,,,,,,i had taken my insurance through mcn compare, but they included road side assistance an recovery!!!!!!!! but,,,,,,,,,,, road side assist/recovery means just this,,help at the kerb side and a recovery of up to 5-10 of the nearest garage,,,poxy useless if its before 9.00am or after 5.00 pm and if you only traveled 5/10mls from home, youd say feck it n leave it there!!!!.
so i have basic aa cover with my bank,so i rang them to ask about bike cover,,,,ive paid £109. with home start/reley,hotel cover if they cant get you home or to a garage, this was discounted through the bank,,,but the good thing is it covers the car,and my van,,,,they dont need registeration numbers either.
if i was travelling with you in your vehicle an you broke down,,it also covers you tooo!!!
Hi, for european cover has anyone considered ADAC the german equivalent of the AA. You can get cover for as little as 90 squid and it covers you in any vehicle (bike included), they use the AA in this country, have a look at their website.
Hmmm.. A long story about insurance last year.
Basically, I had a 2008 ZX10r and 2010 GTR on the policy and I bought a KTM 950 SM - they would not add it to the policy, so I ended up buying and individual policy for the KTM.
This is where is gets really interesting.
1) April - I buy a new 2011 ZX10R (modify it slightly) and think it will replace the ZX10R already on the policy - CN said no. They want me to cancel the policy and start a new policy at £1500.
2) not wanting to cancel a policy 8 months in, I purchase the no claims back from CN and apply it to a new policy and get the new ZX insured for £600 + £150 to buy the no claims. So GTR, ZX and KTM are all separate policy's.
3) August comes around and I get a quote for the GTR - silly money again, but ask how much it is to add to the existing ZX10 policy - £90. (taking in mind, they would not add the 10 to the GTR policy, but will add the GTR to the ZX10 policy).
4) the KTM is now sold, but replaced with a Z750R and when I changed the policy over, I think they screwed me again as the Z750 isn't as high as the KTM.
It will be interesting to see how the insurance policy comes out in 6 weeks time. But it's worth playing the system as I saved myself about £600 overall.
Thieving scumbags.... Stick a finger in the air, taste, say "hmmmm" that's £xxx.xx Sir. Thank you very much.
Neil
So so true Neil, insurance is a bloody lottery these days, I guess the simple answer is shop around, having said that it's still anyones guess what response you are likely to receive when it comes to renewing your bike or car policy.
The message that I get is that insurance companies will just charge as much as they think they can get away with, I've had situations where I've saved hundreds of pounds by shopping round for car insurance, I'm expecting the same scenario when the GTR insurance comes up for renewal.
And a free Meerkat toy doesn't make me fell that I've got a better deal either :2guns:
[/b]
After many years, and countless squandered pound notes I now just punch my details into MCN compare, press the go button, and the one that comes out cheapest gets my business. In the cold light of the day I have found that there is very little/or no difference in any of them regarding the cover they give. It's all about brokers margins at the end of the day.
I tried today on two comparison sites to obtain a quote, because I have a private plate both threw Wobblies as to what bike I had, eventually one even said that I could not have purchased it in Sep 2011, which I did, so much for them wanting my cash.
Alan
My insurance company tried to charge me £88 to adjust my insurance when I transfered my personalised number onto my GTR. They implied that the bike was more of an insurance risk with a personalised plate, which is utter bull :shit:, I argued that the reverse was actually the case.
In the past I had never been charged more than £30 (admin charge) at the most.....of course I politely gave them a few home truths and they immediately reduced the charge to £40. which is still daylight bloody robbery

martin its the zx10r ive got a zx10r 2009 and a gtr 2011 £549 after hagling from £679 renewal cost with carol nash im 45, 6 years noclaims, could of got the gtr for £140 on its own
£140 for the GTR on its own? Thats a very good price, was that with Carol Nash?
no it was with swinton using highway i think it even made me think about selling the ten
My insurance is due in June, I'll have 6 years no claims this time round and hopefully will have completed my Rospa assessment by then which may help on the renewal fee. :hammer:
Got my renewal off bennets at £230 ( £210) last year. Went onto the gomeerkatscompare site and bennets were showing £152 for same policy with same spec. Went back on the other day and bennets were not showing anymore , so i phoned them and explained the mismatch( leading them to believe it was still active ) they checked it and they renewed for me at £152.
manc postcode, 600 total excess , 90 day euro cover, 9 years NCB , garage secure.
Ok I think for such a big bike
Viper, you do right I dont blame you for making sure you get the best deal to suit.
Spot on... there are deals to be had out there...don't ever accept the first offer
every year for the last 5 years ive got my insurance cheaper than the previous, bucking the trend me thinks
