Title: Sat nav bracket
Post by: BigAlan on January 16, 2012, 05:53:57 PM
Imhave just ordered a new Tom Tom Urban Rider Europe and the active dock, anybody have a recommendation as to the standard Kawasaki bracket being any good, or what do you use for this job?

Thanks
Alan

Use the standard Kwak bracket, like it, puts the unit in the right place for me. Hate having satnav flapping about on the bars.

Alan ... I can't find the previous thread on this ... maybe middle of last year this came up as I started with a "Which Sat Nav ?" ... and the bracket stuff followed on naturally .... so it's in here somewhere ! For me it was a Zumo 660 with a K bracket which I have found to be very good, about £34 and fitted for me at service. I am sure the TT will fit just as nicely and it sits right in the middle of the bars not getting in the way of anything.  8)

I had the kawasaki GTr bracket and it works just fine, however the higher riding position on this bike compared to what i was used to meant that i kept having to look down to the sat nav, i hate having it on voice and rely on its visuals. So I ditched the OEM bracket and went for the top yolk attachment type and a longer ram arn to bring it up as high as i could without obstructing anything

I can see the logic of that and being 6'3" tall it makes sense, now I am all confused!

It's going to be bluetoothed into my autocom and I like the idea of looking at the display as well.

Where do you get the top, yolk mount from?

Alan

mines a homebrew bolt and captive nut behind the yolk,

the proper kit is a stem mount, a 2inch ram arm and the diamond ball mount all available direct from Ram mounts or off ebay

have a look for complete kits as its cheaper , but these are the components

i assume 'active mount' means the mount is powered (when ign on)?
Just before xmas I got a zumo 220 + cardo scala (special offer kit) - means i can chat to the missus - or soemone else now via b/tooth with my C3. Haven't mounted the sat nav yet, but the centre fixing looks good, and looks same/similar? to my mates on his zzr. I was just gonna use the accessory socket for power.

when you have wired up your sat nav and if you experience the problem of it appearing to go off when the bike is ticking over, note that kawasaki built in a power saving mode to some of the aux circuits , cant remember which ones but I ended up wiring my sat nav into the sidelight bulb circuit to avoid this .

Yep ... as before that shows that the K bracket does well for Garmin or TT .... good stuff.

I do admit £73 smackers is a lot but its a quality, solid mount. When the bike goes the mounts coming off and getting transferred over thats for sure.
