Put a set of RP3's on a couple of weeks ago. What a difference! I know there is more tread on the new tyres but as my original Bridgestones were still legal I cant believe the difference. Not the cheapest, but I would recommend the Michelins. Can't wait for the better weather. ;D
They are amazing tyres ! Over 5000 miles on mine and no sign of wear and grip the road like very grippy things. Sublime xx
Glad you like them .... I think most chaps here have converted over to them in the last few months ... I know this winter has been mainly dry but even when it has poured down during my commuting the bike feels very safe and well planted on the road .... as you say .. roll on the warm weather !! 8)
After much research these will replace my Slipstones
I've done about seven thousand plus careful miles on my PR3's and I'm confident they will probably be good for another 5k easily.

This is good news - I've got these on my shopping list as replacement tyres when my OEMs have worn.
Well, I just had a Pirelli Angel ST fitted on the back.
Original Bridgestone lasted just over 4K miles on the back and the front has maybe another 1500 left.
Since I avoid riding in the wet I didn't really see the benefit in spending an extra 25 quid for a specialist rain tyre.
Whats £25 these days? Bugger all. I dont see how you can avoid riding in the rain, if you only use your bike for commuting purposes even then on the balance of probablities in the UK you are going to get caught out on a fairly regular basis.
I like riding in the rain it can be quite therapeutic. 8)

I'm with you, as long as it ain't really peeing down or being really windy at the same time.
I do need to buy some new waterproof trousers though. Discovered they were more like just trousers last time I was out in the wet.

I am truly amazed :o by the mileage some of you are getting from the pr3s. My originals on my 011 did 5 thousand miles, I then fitted Dunlop Road smart 2s and really cant see these doing any more than the first lot.
Yep, Kevin averaged 3-4k on his. However you've seen how I ride....Driving Miss Daisy hasn't got anything on me. ;D
Mecki .. let us know how you get on with the Pirelli Angels .. As I have said here before I looked at them and had it not been for the all year commute .. rain and all ... I would have tried them out .. interested to hear your opinions .... :)
Currently on my 3rd rear Angel and 2nd front.
First set were awesome, second rear was OK.
Latest set lack feel and are wearing so quickly - about 3.5k rear is nearly shot, front isn't far behind.
Gonna make em last until big service (due now but winter can finish first) and put a set of PR3's on ready for summer!
Drop in quality at source or are you just getting quicker ? Sounds strange they should change so much .... The RP 3's are brill :)
Riding has stayed pretty much consistent - always re-qualify at class 1!
Heard it from other sources about lack of consistency with the Angels however.
PR3 for me!

Just made agreement with BT to test the new BT23GT on my spring-trip to Italy... about 5000km.
Then I have a really good feeling about the difference of BT23GT and PR3... for now... I do think
that PR3 will be "The one".....
8)
there will be a few on here who will be interested to hear your feedback mosegaard...me included
Well this is my RP rear after 4,600 miles and it's almost as it was when fitted .... you can just about feel the start of the middle flattening out and it's had some abuse but generally commuting and A roads .. there is no doubt that this has many miles left in it ... remarkable ! ;D(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n531/NigelCooper/photo-21.jpg)
Are you sure that tyre has actually touched the road surface? ???
Come on now, you know I like to keep a clean bike !! ;D
These are my PR3's with over 7000 miles on them now. :o
Stacks of life left in them yet. ;D

have a look at that chicken line! ;D
You should have seen the chicken strip on his last tyres. it was right down to edge. I had to start leaning my bike more out of embarrassment!

Isn't that how a rear tyre should look like?
Evenly worn from one edge to the other? 8)
Depends on what you use the bike for.
My last PR3 had 1" wide chicken strips, but then I used it for commuting on motorways and there's not much opportunity to get to the edge of the tyres on motorways. Not that I'm a cornering nutter. I go round the corner at the appropriate speed and if that leaves me with chicken strips, then so be it. Have always worn out the centre of the rear tyre before the sides.
As for tyres, someone may be interested in my tyre usage chart.
Front
BT021 - 0 to 7k miles
PR2 - 7 to 20k miles
PR2 - 20 to 33k miles
PR3 - 33 to 46k miles
PR3 - 46 to ????
Rear
BT021 - 0 to 7k miles
PR2 - 7 to 16k miles (puncture)
PR2 - 16 to 25k miles
PR2 - 25 to 33k miles
PR3 - 33 to 41k miles
PR3 - 41 to 48.5k miles
PR3 - 48.5 to ???
So, fronts are lasting between 12 and 13k and rears between 7 and 9k.
Seems pretty good as my GTR1000 would do 6k on a rear tyre and about 10k on a front.
So the mileage is roughly the same between pr2 and pr3. are the pr3's worth the considerably higher price?

I have not used PR2s, only PR3s, but I cannot being to imagine any tyre being worth overlooking the PR3s for. They are simply stunning. Dry grip, wet grip, whole life consistency, mileage, rider confidence. Simply stunning. A truly miraculous tyre.

that is surely the main point ~ as not only does the Pr3 last as well as its predecessor, it appears that it is also a much better performing tyre...seems like a no brainer to me....PR3s all the way
All I 've got to do know is wear these crap OEM BTs out ;D

mecki, there's more to riding a bike than seeing how far you can lean. ::) Been there, done that, yawn...no big deal.
The PR3 do seem to be a set of remarkable tyres, given the weight and performance of the GTR1400 :)
The front on mine has done 11k miles and still looks extremely good :) :)
The current rear has only done 3k miles, the previous rear did nearly 7k miles before having a puncture and was alooking very good with plenty of tread and next to no squaring off :)
Steve
Anyone noticed at slight wiggle/weave on the PR3's at ~80? Hard to describe, but it feels squirmy at the front.
I had these on an FJR1300 for years and didn't notice this particular problem. I might get the dealer to check out the wheel balance. PR2/PR3's only lasted 5K on the FJR. Worn right down (https://picasaweb.google.com/106553510914133429004/06082011#5637664612913519346).

What's the mileage on the PR3s?
My front has started to feel a bit squeamish, but that's after 10k miles.

Started from new. The front feels a lot lighter with the PR3's, perhaps it's just that.
I found a receipt for my current PR3's this afternoon dated 24th March 2011. I'm easily almost into double figures on the mileage with them now and they still seem to be performing very well.
Squirmy normally means either too low pressure in the front (they need 42psi front and rear) or else your wheel bearings may be on the way out. They don't last very well at all. If ya manage over 25k miles yer doing well.
Lonewolf,... you're getting over 9k miles out of a rear PR3?
Damn! Must ride like a granny. :mfr_lol: :tt2:

Boomer, no Grannies involved at all! Progressive riding, but smooth. The other weekend when we went to The Bridge and Kwikasfuki came with me I jokingly said to him, try and keep up with me to which he laughed, however when we got to The Bridge he was a bit suprised at the rapid pace. :mfr_lol:
Ruddy hell Steve, that's why Asif didn't come out with us last year..............

Ok, at no expense I have downloaded images of the approach to the overtake and yes upon reflection it seems they were possibly ramblers.

Pilot Road 3 with 12.000km on the road...
Plenty of life left in them yet.
Like some other tyres the PR3 seems like it can be bike specific, some ZZR owners have fitted them, some love them but others have reported a vague feeling when turning in, I wonder if the extra weight and slower steering of the GTR suit the tyre ?
Does anybody use Dunlop Roadsmart 2 ?
dtr
I had the Dunlops on my GTR when I picked it up, they were fine in the dry but twitchy in the wet and not a patch on the Michelins.
Great tyres but do puncture easily in my opinion OC summed it up beautifully some time ago when he said PR3 stands for puncture rapidly.
Never had a puncture with my PR3's.
I wish i had never had a puncture with mine.

PR3 Paths 10,000 miles and again at 1 mm wear limit.
Great pneomatico, his only weak point on our GTR 1400 after 140 mph loses directionality, s'avverte a senzo sway.
