I have a Sep 11 new bike and am thinking of getting the standard seat increased on its padding front, try to make it even more comfortable than it is and I hear there are some people who can make this happen.
Anybody know of a reputable outfit who could do this?
Alan
what area are you?
Tony archer in huddersfield is the best one I use, also melvin at custom motorcycle seats in coventry has also done work for me.
I think the gtr seat is pretty good in its stock state but mine is going off to Tony's for an additional layer of memory foam and a new cover since i installed the heat mats
For really long hauls across europe I use a Air Hawk cushion ala charley and ewan, 8 hours , no problem
Whilst having not done anything with any seats... I've heard good things about Tony Archer too, either on here or some other forum.
I have done 1000km stints (10-12 hours) on the standard seat and no problems whatsoever!
On my previous bike (Bandit 1250) the backside started to hurt after 2 hours and after 4 it became nearly unbearable.
I finally put a gel-seat on and it was a huge improvement but still no comparison to the GTR standard seat.
If you're in the South East try Viking Vinyl, really good guy is Lee and has sorted the seats on 4 of my bikes over the years, and for plenty of other guys I know.
Tony Archer is a one man operation , works out of a tiny unit in Huddersfield, has got a machine as old as the hills and really knows his stuff. He is very approachable and always happy to help. I take my seat over and sit in his workshop while he does it , having a brew with him, I think he prefers that as posting all the seats back is a bind . Get your seat done as early as possible as once the weather improves he will be jacked out with " Postal " work and may have a waiting time . Phone him as he does not do emails although he has got a website
Tony in Huddersfeild sounds like the right man but he is way up north for me, the guys in Coventry are way expensive but so far the team at Viking down near Brands Hatch seem reasonable.
More investigation needed I think.
I,d prefer to rock up on the bike and have a lip while it's done than send it away, can't ride it the.

I always take my seats to Lee, Viking Vinyl, have a natter and a cuppa, nice bloke. He works in a similar way to Tony Archer, one man band, but does have help from his son occasionally and does do email. Can't recommend him highly enough.
I've used Tony Archer before on a previous bike, top bloke, I think he charged me about £70 ish. I'll be using him again shortly as I want my current seat doctoring.
Tony Archer sounds (and web page looks) like the real deal, shame he is 175 miles away.
Viking motorcycleseats near Brands Hatch is only 106 miles away, he has good recomendations so for the moment he is favourite, but i hate the M25 with a Vengance.
Decison time next week i think.
Alan
Typically both places mentioned are around the same distance from my house! 160ish miles. Ho hum.
Mind you, I've never spent much more than an hour or so on the bike at a time. I'll see what it's like when I finally get out on a long run later in the year.
Another recommendation for Tony Archer. He's local to me :)
P&P in Coventry were recommended but they have a five week turn around and I can't be looking at the bike that long without riding it, Tony Archer is way to far away so at the moment Viking Motorcyleseats just outside Brands Hatch are favourite, if nothing else comes up then I shall ride down and wait.
Thanks
Alan
Tony Archer will with a bit of forewarning do the seat mod same day and even while you wait.
Never heard such a load of tosh, never mind all those characters that are making a killing out of shoving a load of old foam in your seat.!!!!!! No !! face the problem head on and "do it yourself. My motto is make your own padding.!!!!!!!!!! Start by eating as many pies, and large volumes of chips as possible, follow this up with a combination / or all of the following, cream cakes, buns, biscuits, (My favourite are those lovely fig biscuits), and as much chocolate as is possible to shove down your fat face. Also dont forget to pile as much sugar in your tea as possible, do all this and in no time at all your (seat) will be be padded out to perfection. So dont delay start today. I'm sure Tony Archer is a very nice man BUT how many MARS bars can you buy for 150qid. ;)
230 on average. Probably more if you bought them from the wholesalers. somewhere like Makro. ;D

On reflection maybe 230 Mars bars would make you feel a bit Pat and Mick :(
The only problem with your padding method is the extra weight that you have to support.
Sorry Geoff, been there, done that, it didn't work and I ended up being a fat bastard. ;)
You Boys and your seats !!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D LOL ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
