Title: Polishing
Post by: BigAlan on December 22, 2011, 01:25:11 PM
Just spent almost all morning cleaning and polishing the bike, looks like brand new, I have had the postman, a woman walking a dog and a neighbour I had not seen for ages all stop and comment on the bike and how they liked it.

Even people at work when I sometimes ride it comment on how they like the look of it.

A popular choice I think, me I loved it within five miles of riding it.

Not about polishing, but as you mentioned work.

One of the managers here took a shine to my bike and asked if could ride it around the car park (after assuring me he'd cover any damages!)

So off he went round and round for 5 mins. Comes back and says "wow, I've never driven an automatic".  ;D

BA ... I know what you mean ... nothing like a good clean and polish, a bit of Auto Glym and ACF50 ( any excuse to put on a pair of latex gloves ) .... very relaxing  ;D ;D

This has reminded me I meant to wash my bike today, but got caught up doing work. *sigh*

I think it's gonna rain tomorrow... :( Hopefully I can get it done before the heavens open.

Then I need help.  :o ::) ;)
I do it, but I don't like it.

As for polishing, I have a spray-on/buff-off wax that is good enough for me.
It's a bike, not jewellery.

Have to agree riding it is top of the list, but then when you get home and you carefully take each panel off and wash front and back & then blow dry each panel followed by a good polish of each panel etc....you get the picture. It is very comforting.  ;)

As far as I'm concerned cleaning is nothing but a chore!
I rather put my feet up and relax after I come home after a ride out.
But if you love it so much you can clean my bike.
Must be so much more fun than cleaning one that isn't even dirty. ;D

I haven't been reading this thread as the thread title was a peculiar mix of characters that I don't understand. I just opened it out of curiosity and I see it's about that other weird word - c-l-e-a-n-i-n-g. I've now read to the end and this post of yours needs to be deleted LW as it plumbs depths of depravity the like of which I have never encountered before! Edit: In fact now I've thought about it I have just reported your post to the moderator on the grounds of obscenity!

Fortunately Lyn quite enjoys c-l-e-a-n-i-n-g our bikes (with the emphasis on our).

Kevin, as your bikes are shared posessions then your good lady is I feel duty bound to muck in and do her bit and clean them all at least once a week.  ;)

I got the report. LW should ban himself!

I like to keep my bike clean and sparkly, firstly because it's a work of art and should be admired, and secondly when polished I reckon it's worth a monkey more than a dirty one.

Right I consider myself well and truely bollocked! No more obscene talk about polishing, although I might just clean it once more this year and then call it a draw till 2012.  8)

Unless you intend selling your bike there and then that just isn't true.
If you crash it the insurance will pay the same amount regardless how clean it is.
And if you ride it or it's just sitting in your garage? Who cares how much it's worth?
It will get dirty again anyway and nobody is paying you a penny for cleaning it.  ;D

I did say the monkey reference a little tongue in cheek, I agree there only worth what they are basically in any condition, it's just when I have polished it I want more for it.

Yeah I love riding more than I like cleaning.... but a nice looking clean bike is BETTER to ride than a scruffy dirty thang!!
You guys use any special polish? I been using muc off to get the crap off, then muc off polisher, which does come up nicely on the paintwork. Solvol autosol on the chrome/metal works a treat.

Simoniz car shampoo (muc-off if bad crud)

Rinse with cold water.

'Leather' off with a micro-fibre towel type thing.

Polish with Mr Sheen.

Occasionally polish with Autoglym polish and coat with Resin Finish, but Mr Sheen gives best finish of everything I've tried
