Title: mini tyre compressor!
Post by: 2kwacks on December 09, 2011, 08:55:27 PM
recently I asked for advice on a mini air compressor and after much research and deliberation ;D have decided to give this "ring" rac 635 mini air compressor ago! it was voted the best in it's class by "automotive" it's got a digital read out which is precise! and as excellent reviews. it's small and compact and as a pre-set mode and auto cut off. if any one is thinking of acquiring one, it's only £18.45 including post on amazon.co.uk ;)

Have you checked it against a calibrated tyre pressure guage? I returned two tyre inflators recently which were misreading by 4-5 psi. Totally unacceptable. I'm still looking for one so if this is a decent piece of kit I'll get one.

no chaps have not checked it my-self yet. only just orderd it, am just going on the reviews of who have bought this item and said it is a excellent bit of kit. also "autoexpress" have tested this product and they said the digi read out was found to be precise! here is the "autoexpress" link I got my information from! Really" all I need is a small compressor to put air in the tyre if required and to temporary repair a punture should I be unlucky and get a leak. I also carry a small "plug" repair kit! if the digi read out prove's to be acurate then that's a bonus. I also carry a "pencil" pressure gauge, so knowing the excact tyre pressure should not be a problem ;)

I have that exact model in the garage and on the two occasions I have used it the actual pressure I wanted has been within 2lbs, for example on the GTR I wanted 42 and got 44.

For a cheap unit I reckon that's not bad, now all I have to do is look on it for the amp rating to see if it can be used on the power socket on the bike without blowing the 5 amp fuse.

let me know about the 5 amp? mine is scheduled for delivery the 19th december :o just as well I'm not waiting for it. they must be sending it by wounderd carrier pigeon ;D but they did only charged 70 pence post so can't complain. have got a optimate 4  with the permanent lead connected to the bike's battery. so was just going to join the optimate croc clips lead to the lead that supplied with the compressor's permanent battery lead to power it!

Just looked and there is no indication on the actual pump that i can see but i popped the glass fuse out of the end and it was a 10A version, so if a fuse is going to go due to a fault etc it wil be the bike one, thats unless you change the fuse to a 3A for example and give it go, which i will do during the week.

Just remember, if you have a 2010 + model you can't run it off the accessory socket on the dash as it's only rated at 5amps (with a 5amp fuse that blows). I know this cause I tried... :-(

Having said that, I wonder why it's only rated at 5amps and not 10, like it used to (so someone said). Wiring not thick enough?

I orderd and just received this mini air compressor http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/products/products/218226/ring_rac600_automatic_digital_air_compressor.html
anyone thinking of buying this model which cost from £29.99 to as much as £39.99 :o at various sellers! I managed to find it on "Amazon.co.uk"  for £18.70 "brand new item" and comes in it's own handy zip bag including post and packaging :) as far the accessoire socket only being 5 amp on the 2010 model is concearned, I don't intend on using this to power the compressor anyway. instead I cut off the "male" connector of a optimate charger's main lead that I got of a mate. his garage flooded last year and his charger got water damaged. I just solderd and used plastic heat shrink tubing to connect the optimate "male" plug to the compressor power input wires. so I will be using the optimate permanent lead that's direct from the bike's battery. thought the permanent optimate lead is allready connected from the bike's battery to enable quick and easy connection to the charger unit. so connecting the compressor is now is as simple as connecting the charger to the bike "via" the permanent battery lead :)  you can buy the extension lead thats suits the optimate charger and use the male connector of the extension lead. theses extension leads can be bought on ebay for £5.99, Unfortunately theses connectors can't be bought seperate. suppose you could allways throw some water on your mates charger when he's not looking :-X then ask can you cut the "male" connector of the lead ;)

Mr Wolf. "me thinks" your slightly missing de point here ;) my idea of a mini tyre inflator is for emergency use only. i.e when am out and about and me gets a punture >:( I want a quick and tempary repair and have the means to add sufficent air to get me moving till a replacement tyre can be fitted as soon as possible, the compressor have bought is a Ring r.a.c 365 digital. I was also concearned about the accuracy of the p.s.i of any digital air compressor, but this particular compressor did have lots of reviews all of which said it was a excellent product and the gauge was accurate. having said that, I use a 12 volt air compressor with a anolog gauge at home but still use the pencil type pressure gauge to check the pressure is correct. I never rely on one reading anyway! I also carry the pencil type pressure gauge with me. if this particular compressor have just bought turns out to be accurate, then as far as am concearned that's a bonus. but I will still re-check the p.s.i with the pencil type gauge which is small enough to be carried anywhere :) check theses reviews out through this link http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B000UPEHJU/ref=dp_db_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1 for the money I thinks it's a excellent buy ;)

i'v got this one and it is very accurate! only problem is mine has a 5amp fuse fitted which blew first time i used it,spoke to the guys at d&k and they said should be ok to put a 10amp fuse in the bike which in turn will run it,not tried it yet though

2kwacks, my apologies. I thought you meant for normal inflating etc. No for emergencies etc I can see where you are coming from.

I personally would not replace a fuse with a higher rating one. I'm  :o that d&k even suggested that, kawasaki "boffins" have fitted a 5 amp fuse for a reason and I bet on this occasion it was not to save money! asuming you have a optimate fitted. if you haven't, it may be wise to get one ;) keeps your battery in top condition and fully charged, mine is allways connected when in my garage, it's safe and designed to leave permanently connected. then simple invest in a extension cable for for approx £5.00 then cut the male plug of the end and solder and use heat shrink tubing to insulate the join, then you simple power the compressor from optimate lead permanently connected from the bike battery :) simple, effective and safe. why take chance on replacing with a higher rating fuse. it's the "should be ok bit" that's sounds a bit like, "well did we say that" :-X look's like you've been unlucky this time. never mind, bring your bike in monday and we will rewire it. don't forget your gold credit card thou, not sure what other damaged it may have caused :o :( >:( then :'(

first of all do you have a optimate? if it's a optimate or datatool this extension lead will fit. here's the link http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Optimate-4-Accessory-Extension-Lead-2-5m-TM73-/390144111014?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item5ad666b1a6 even if you don't have a optimate fitted. you can use this lead with 2 ring connectors to connect to the battery, then use the male and female conections to power the compressor. if you have not got a optimate charger and thinking of getting one. I recommend the optimate 4 here's a link http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OPTIMATE-3-4-DUAL-6-MOTORBIKE-MOTORCYCLE-CAR-LEISURE-BATTERY-CHARGER-OPTIMISER-/250929719318?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=&hash=item8012073c83 have 2 of theses one on the zzr1400 and on the gtr1400 and there permanently connected when the bike's are not in use. there fully automatic and check the battery every 30 minutes only supplying a very small charge if required. had a optimate on my zrx1200 for 5 years, never had a flat battery or needed to replace the battery. also know the guy who bought the zrx1200 from me. that was 3 years ago, the bike is still on the same battery and optimate charger. as far as I'm concearned, there the best thing since sliced bread ;D also if you buy this optimate charger there a good chance the guy will throw in a extension cable, if you ask nicely :) after all it's "CHRISTMAS" ;)
