Recently the air pressure on rear tyre of the gtr as been loosing quite abit p.s.i this started about month ago. if the bike is left for a few weeks it looses approx 20 p.s.i the front only looses 2 or 3 p.s.i. up to a month ago the rear tyre only lost a few p.s.i over a week. have checked the valve for leaks and the tyre for any puntures or nails e.t.c. both the valve and tyre are free from air leaks, there is also no damaged to the rim. could put this down to leaving the bike longer than when in the summer without use, but the front as no significant air loss, also my zzr dose not loose any more than 5 p.s.i in either tyre when left for a few weeks. dose this happen to anybody eles or is life just being cruel to me ;)
Happened to me on one of my GTR1000s.
The wheel rim had not been adequately cleaned so the tyre wasn't making a perfect seal.
If you definately don't have anything in the tyre and the valve core is definately OK (replace it with a new one) then you will need to get the tyre taken off, the rim cleaned, and the tyre refitted.
A correctly fitted tyre should not lose more than a couple of PSI per week.

will check it every other day and keep an eye on the pressure, have not been using the bike for up to 4 to 5 weeks at time, not sure if this would cause this? but I know there's 42p.s.i in at the moment so will check it again end of week. this is the original tyre and it only just started loosing air since have not been using as much!
My rear lost a few psi more than the front to begin it's life, but after I topped it up it has stayed steady matching the front at 42 psi when cold.
On a related note, I bought a mini air compressor aimed at bikers. Plugged it into the accessory socket. Light came on. Dialed in 42 psi, turned it on, motor comes on, then cuts out. Turns out it's rated at 10 amps and the accessory socket at only 5 amps. Need a new fuse. :-( Ho hum. I'm going to try and make a cable up that connects to my optimate lead instead! (I've heard it's the same connector as a RC car battery).
20 psi is far too much to lose naturally unless there is a leak somewhere. As Boomer said I'd get it checked, can you do it at work or do they frown against working on personal machines?
I may have been a bit out on how much p.s.i am loosing, for example end of last month I check the tyre pressure before I went for a ride, can't remember if I needed to add any air! but it must of had 42 p.s.i in or I would have got my compressor out. when I checked it today before going out, there was 25 p.s.i in the rear tyre so in 4 weeks it lost 17 p.s.i so approx 4 p.s.i a week and it as been rather cold lately! so not sure now if there's a problem? have just check the tyre pressure now and there's 41 p.s.i in the rear will check saturday, if it's lost any more than 3 p.s.i then I will investigate further ;)

I use a 12 v mini compressor but I power it on a old 12 volt battery and use the optimate to keep the battery charged via the croc clips! was thinking of buying this smaller compressor that I can carry when touring. glad you told me about the 10 amp rating will message this guy to find out what the rating is!

Hi
I had a similar issues with the front and rear but in particular with the rear in that for a while both tyres would lose about 2psi per week - checked the valves tyres etc etc and couldn't find anything wrong. When the tyres were replaced it continued to happen with the rear. I also flagged the issue up with the Kawasaki dealer and Kawasaki themselves to see if anybody else had the same issue
The solution in the end - I asked the tyre dealer to thoroughly clean the rims where the tyre is bedded and since then I haven't had a problem.
Kind regards
Steve
I've had a couple of 12v mini tyre inflators recently from Maplins and they have been so unreliable and inacurate I returned them. The dial was about 5 psi out which is absolutely no good whatsoever. I currently use a Michelin digital tyre pressure guage which is accurate and calibrated to within +/- half a psi. Then I just use a normal tyre inflator which will run off a 12v socket.
If anyone ever finds a totally accurate small tyre inflator at a sensible price please let me know.
or possible this one!

I bought a Michelin double cylinder foot pump a couple of weeks ago because my front seems to loose pressure slowly and with those big brake discs it's a real pain to adjust the tyre pressure at petrol stations even with a 90o angle piece.
And the b...ds even charge for air these days.
It's a lot quicker and I'm quite happy with it.
am also weighing this one up as well, just waiting for some info back from the seller.

Hi
I ended going for one produced by Slime as it is small/compact and easy enough to carry around in the bottom of the pannier. I don't use it very often but it does the job :) - recently it came to the rescue of GS onwer who turned up for a group ride who discovered he couldn't inflate his tyres using the garage air line - he had travelled 30 miles to get to the meeting point but only checked his tyre pressures when he arrived :-X :-X
Steve
When they were nice and warm and reading high! ???
I've had a couple of those small electric pumps and found em to be useless :(... they are OK for the first 20psi or so but after that they don't seem to have the power to get the pressure to 42psi... I use the co2 cartridges with a delivey system so i can use em without having to empty one out.
fer touring hols i also have along a mini foot pump to do the first 20psi or so, it;s much lighter and smaller than the electric ones. :)
I also use a foot pump I got from Halfords. If you are only topping up a few pounds it is not a problem.
I see the bit about 'Slime' I swear by tyre sealants such as ' Ultra Seal' for prevention of punctures, but have not used it since I got the GTR as I am given to believe it knackers up the pressure sensor for the headstock readout. Do not know if that is true.
That RING compressor linked off ebay is basically what I have. It's rated at 10amps, so will blow your accessory socket fuse if you use it in there. It seemed fine pumping my tyres up to 42 psi by the way. I like it. I just need to wire it into the battery direct.
I've got a michelin tyre pumpy thing. I too burst the fuse on the pan so I changed the cigarette lighter end to a socket the same as my optimiser. This goes straight to the battery. I have the same set up on my GSXR as well and an adapter for the car.
Works a treat, its never on long so doesnt kill the battery.
If youve got an optimate or similar just get a plug.
Ive only had my GTR since Sept and only done 300miles. The front has lost 2-3 PSi a month and the back has been fine. My GSXR goes to bed in November until April, it loses 20psi each wheel when sitting that length of time.
Probably just a poor seal like the others have said.
Pre 2010 models are fused at 10amp.
5amp for the newer model.

why in god's name did kawasaki do that? think I will use the spare "croc" clip's connector's that came with my optimate 4 and swap it for the fag lighter "plugger inner thingy" that's normally supplied with the mini 12 volt tyre compressor's. only want this when I'm touring, when at home I use croc clips and old car battery to power my car tyre compressor. but was thinking of getting a small motorcycle tyre compressor to carry with me. suppose it's just as easy to plug it into the permanent optimate lead straite from the bike's battery.

Brilliant. Thanks Kawasaki. :P
