Rusty and I were discussing the stunning locations in Yorkshire at the NEC the other day and generally chatting about just how fortunate us Northerners are with all the stunning moorland and scenic rides we have, be it in North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and even East Yorkshire and Humberside.
I had a ride again up to Swaledale in North Yorkshire today to visit yet again the highest pub in the UK. The weather was great, cool but not cold. Even the sun made an appearance. However up at the Tan Hill Inn though there was one hell of a breeze, have a look at the video link to see just how windy it was. I had to park the bike around the corner so that it didn't get blown over.

The bikes filthy and I never got a chance to wash it, so it's going to have to wait now for a few days, hope it'll be alright and forgive me! ;D
That's it ! I,m coming up ! i want some of that scenery, those cobbled stones in the pub and those sodding great chips !! ...... ;D
April / May time ... Mr Wolf I shall be in contact ! ;)
I think accommodation in the pub is £70 - £90 a night approx. I sense many of your rest days will be spent away from home next year. ;D
We take all this for granted cause its right on our doorstep.
Hi LW,
You are so fortunate to have that scenery and isolation on your doorstep, if i go south, congestion, if i go west, congestion, north, the flat featureless fens, east, wet!!!! N.Sea. Nearest "good" roads are 70-80 miles away (B660 etc). There are the odd 5-10 miles of fun but few and far between. I am 20 miles from the Harwich ferry or 100 miles from the Eurotunnel and with the unpredictable weather in the UK it is easier to get to France or Germany than it is to get to IOM or Ireland and generally less wet, better roads and less regulated.

Coman .. do you take the Chunnel trip often seeing as you are fairly close ? Must be very tempting to nip across for a night stop and do some nice uncrowded miles ;D

Oh yes you are so right. ;D
We are seriously spoilt round here.
Shhh LW. We don't want the southerners up here. Rusty is planning on coming up - he might not leave.

Good point, I never thought of that. :o
Lord ! Could you imagine that ? A posh southerner living up North ... i would have to learn about ferrets and pigeons but I think deep fried Mars Bars would just about be tolerated. ;D ;D
Brrrr, the frozen North... not a chance..... Mogs never strays beyond the Watford Gap services unless it's a matter of life or death. They eat funny food up there, and i can't understand a word said ;D ;D ;D

Aye, that's exactly what it's like up here. You really don't want to venture into these parts. I hear there are lovely views of the M25 to be had at this time of the year ;)
Having said all that I confess to loving Fish and Chips with mooooshy peas and gravy .... now I am told by one of my northern colleagues at work that this is considered " proper northern " ;D
Ah yes!!!!. the north of England, where men are men and sheep are nervous ::). The last bastion of proper civilisation before the relentless march of more people, more houses, more congestion more roads, less open space, less scenery, less humility, less thought for your fellow human being consumes us all >:(. Me and my good lady have just returned from our one and only adventure outside of our own little part of paradise, on our annual pilgrimage to the bike show at the N E C, and we have been truly staggered by the seething mass of humanity, and volume of traffic whilst journying there and back :o. I feel that unless you are brought up in that kind of environment it would be almost impossible to adjust to it . We were more than pleased to arrive back home to (Gods country) :D. As a motorcyclist the North of England has everything most bikers could wish for, superb (empty roads) staggering scenery, and a feeling of being out in the open, plus great lung fulls of fresh air. With the top part of Lancashire, plus Durham, Northumberland, Yorkshire, The Yorkshire dales, The lake district, The scottish borders, and indeed Scotland itself we are truly spoiled ;D. Anyway that concludes my peice for the tourist board, I am off to the "chippie "for my lunch and I shall nail some new rubber to the bottom of my clogs this afternoon. :) :) :) cheers Geoff
Please don't have pity on us poor 'Townies' in the south, as in order to experience true motorcycling nirvana, one only has to pop down to the coast and a short trip later, we are in the land of cheaper petrol, beeeootifuly surfaced roads, polite drivers, no traffic what so ever and a truly amazing gastronomic experience at every food stop ( no mushy peas or black pudding :P).
and of course there is none of that negotiating mile of mile of congetsted motorway (called the midlands) in order to get somewhere where it rains for 51 and a half weeks of the year. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Yes Mr Mogster I take your point just thinking of the journey from south/to north is not for the faint hearted. A few years ago our journey home from Plymouth goes down as THE worst biking journey ever. :'(
Mine ended up on it's side a couple of weeks ago (during our mini hurricane up here).
Riding in the high winds was exciting! Felt really stable given the conditions, but left in a car park for 5 minutes and over she went!
Smashed RH mirror, cracked infill panel, scratches on upper & lower fairings & scratched pannier (which had popped off), but no other damage, maybe a couple of fairing brackets slightly bent, all looks fine now I've replaced the mirror (I was quoted over £1000 for the scratched fairings & infill panel replacement.

Did you have it parked on the centre stand or side stand? We had a mini tornado go through Manchester last week and the only bike that suffered was the one on the centre stand.
I am sorry .... " Mini Tornado " and is it " Hurricane " ??..... these are not words we know down here in the soufffff .. please explain ;D 8) 8) ;D
Side stand, I was on my tod & initially worried about the weight, but she lifted OK (probably fuelled with the 'shit, I've hurt my baby' angst) :(
Joking aside Bondu .... that is bad luck. I would hate that, like everyone else here to happen to my GTR. Many years ago I dropped my B Em after cleaning it and slipped from under my foot as I was putting it on the main stand ... the days before Internet and E bay ... cracked fairing and damage ... horrible :-[
Looks like I better get some R&G Adventure bars than another xorst then for my Xmas present. :(
I'm kicking my own arse at the moment, I was going to go for the Top Block gear a while ago and decided to wait a while!
The mirror would still have been trashed, I guess.
