Post by: Kwikasfuki on October 13, 2010, 01:24:02 PM
My next project is to update the brake lines to steel braided ones. Can anyone recommened some manufacturers?

NB, without a doubt go with Goodridge or HEL. I had the Goodridge hoses fitted to both my other bikes one was a CB1300 and the other was a Yamaha XJR 1300. I fitted them myself to the CB, it took about ten minutes per line to bleed them from scratch and get the right feel from them.
Well worth the money which I think was about £130 for a two line kit for the front, rear brake and clutch line all with stainless fittings, make sure you get stainless.

Can't see any listed for the GTR. I've emailed HEL to ask them if they do them for the GTR. I can get Galfers but from reading the reviews HEL are the ones to go for

The only HEL ones I can find are for the ZZR 1400. I don't suppose anyone knows if these will fit the GTR?

Even if Hel or Goodridge dont advertise the lines you want, my understanding is that these manufacturers will custom make them. I dont think though on a 3 year old bike you should have issues with the brake lines deteriating to such an extent that they need changing. I know my brakes on the GTR are as keen as mustard.

Lord Rusty, I was thinking that this morning. If I ever move to a new GTR its going to be a pain transferring everything across or getting new versions.

LW, I agree that the GTR are brakes are fantastic and I doubt if the lines have deteriorated that much. But you know me ....  ;D

I have only ever replaced brake lines when deterioration started to affect braking performance and feel.
My GTR1000 has Goodridge hoses and CBR1000XXW 4 piston calipers on the front with EBC HH pads and discs from http://www.allbikeengineering.co.uk/ (http://www.allbikeengineering.co.uk/).
The rear has the original caliper, Goodridge hose, EBC organic pads and disc from http://www.allbikeengineering.co.uk/ (http://www.allbikeengineering.co.uk/).
On the 1000 the rear brake can be too good and it's easy to lock it so I don't want to improve the performance.
The bike is 22 years old and has 160,000 miles on the clock.

On the 1400 the brakes are awesome. I have the original discs, calipers, hoses and EBC HH pads all round.
The ABS gets triggered on the rear quite often but only ever gets triggered on the front when I am braking hard on a bumpy surface.
That momentary release of the braking can be momentarily terrifying when it first happens to you.
Now I'm used to it.
Bike is 3½ years old and has just short of 36,000 miles (and rising @ 600 per week).

I wish I had your money. I'd use it to buy another Russell Saddle and an even taller CalSci screen.  8)

Don't even start...i've had 4 bikes since we last bought a car (6 years ago!!)...and every time i try to get enough money together to build a bike garage, she spends it on the decorating/building work

Despite the fact that replacing my Tiger wasn't really my fault (it got written off)...i have been put on notice, if i even mention a new bike before another car....she'll do damage, lots and lots of damage...to everything i own

The net result is i don't want to do anything to the back garden cause i'm going to have have to rip alot of it out for the garage, and not considered part of the house which needs sorting (which was a mess when bought 3 years ago) and i'm never gonna have any money to spend it!! ;D

Ahh yes, SWMBO! They use up money faster than a shredder!
Mine was pretty good when I bought the 1400 but then again I was earning 3 times what I am on now.
I'll be riding this 1400 until at least 100,000 miles and most likely beyond.
My GTR1000 has 160,000 and I bought it with 82,000 on it.
