I've always been a Kawasaki lover.. from the mid seventies with the KH'S to date with the recent 2020 H2 SX SE and to many Kawasaki's in between to mention  Really enjoyed our recent Scotland trip even though I cut it short as was feeling :shit: as never got over the flu I caught a few weeks earlier off the grandkids.. even though I rather not admit the H2 SX SE did cause me a quite a few pains here and there.. well I'm not getting any younger so thought it's time to get myself a more comfortable steed as hope to be touring Europe again either later in the year if possible :whistling: if not next year for defo.. whatever steed I decided to go for has a lot to live up to as the Kawasaki H2 SX SE is a tuff act to follow.. was not going to take any chances on bike's I've not toured on before so thought best to stick with what I know to be a excellent all rounder..  so back to the dark side as had 2 B.M.W R1200 GS'S in the past and found them to be excellent for comfort/touring and in the twisties..  so decided on the new model 2021 B.M.W R1250 GS adventure triple black..  Recently had the first 600 mile service done and went for a 240 mile ride today around North wales.. well impressed with the new "shift cam" on the 1250 model as it pulls strong in any gear..  ok... it won't pull your arms off like the H2 SX SE use to  but to be honest.. I only use the full power on the H2 SX SE a few times and remember thinking to myself this is going to end in tears at some point :whistling: here is a few pics of my new steed first pic just before collection and today on the horseshoe pass..

The Dark Side / back to the dark side
June 11, 2021, 09:04:47 PM
After much thought decided to swap my Kawasaki H2 SX SE for a more comfortable tourer. "not as nimble as I use to be" they say.. better the devil you know.. well with that in mind decided to go back to the dark side..  I've had 2 B.M.W'S R1200 GS'S in the past found them to be a excellent allrounder. so did a deal and traded my 2020 Kawasaki H2 SX SE for a 2021 B.M.W R1250 GS TE triple black..  so after a few hours in my man cave fitting a few nice accessories.. Rad guards/headlight guard/ spotlight guards/akrapovic exhaust/frame boot guards/fenda extenda/mud slinger/side stand big foot/nav 6 sun shade/TFT sun shade/tank bag/ hand guard extenders /triple black wording and colour coded tank and side tank protectors.. roll on the first 600 miles!

Accessories, Farkels and Mods / ear plugs...
September 26, 2020, 08:33:29 PM
just wondering what make of ear plugs do you guys use? when I had my gtr1400 wind was not a problem.. but now finding the wind noise causing me lot's of grief :hammer: most likely as my z900rs cafe as little or no protection from wind blast.. I've already replaced the screen to a double bubble which as improved wind slightly but still getting to much wind blast. been using the boots soft gel ear plugs which I've found better than the cheapies that you can buy. now it's time to invest in a decent ear plugs before I go Mutt 'n' Jeff...  any recommendations on what's the best to buy?

thinking of going down the bespoke route and getting them professionally made for my lug holes.. but before I do are there any you can buy that are just as good.

General Discussion / good all-around commuter
April 19, 2020, 12:48:54 PM
Most bikers have more than one bike and since the mid seventies like most of us I've had to many to list and up to 2012 I had 3 bikes at the same time.. 2008 zzr1400/2010 gtr1400 and the 2012 versys 650. but as I never learned the art of riding more than one bike at the same time I decided to reduce myself to one bike.. well that's not true really.. I use to ask the wife why she as so many shoes and hand bags when you can only wear one at time and she would reply the same reason why you have 3 bikes and only can ride one at a time.. fair comment DOH!

possible thinking of a good all-around commuter to keep the miles and consumable's costs down on my H2 SX SE but still have I've good handling and economical bike to use and if I remember correctly the Versys 650 was excellent at both so when this bloody corona virus is over I will be on the look out for a 2nd generation either pre-reg/ex demo or a few year's old low miles Versys 650 preferable the tourer model with panniers and spot lights.

also noticed that Kawasaki are now offering the versys 650 with 0% finance over 3 or 4 years years and some dealers are offering the extended 2 years Kawasaki warranty with the deal.. so unless I  can get a bargain on a nearly new low miles used versys 650 or ex demo/pre reg may consider a new model.

if you were thinking of a good reliable commuter what would you choose?

General Discussion / thoughts so far!
March 28, 2020, 08:39:09 AM
Well who would have thought before Christmas we would all be in the position we are now.. just wondering how many of us had booked or even planned a bike trip or holiday this year, I was planning a Europe bike trip around late July early August I would rather do a bike trip in June as weather is not so hot, the reason I was leaving it late this year to book the bike trip was.. I already had a week planned early June with family in Cumbria and a 2 week holiday planned late June in Spain for myself and good wife So from 3 holidays to none is a blow to say the least. as we are all on shut down now holidays in the UK is a no.. no.. and Spain is one of the worst to be hit by this virus so it's obvious we won't be going to Spain. my normal bike trip in Europe is a 10 day tour of France/Belgium/Germany/Austria and Italy which also now is not going to happen. I've no doubt that everyone plans this year as gone to pot and I understand if no one would rather not talk about holidays you had planned in the coming months. So let's all pull together and beat this bloody virus .. roll on next year I will certainly be making up for the holidays I've lost this year..

Enjoyed a nice ride out today :biker3: with Steve on his very nice gs adventure r1200gs rally to betsycoed  via stop off at Lyn ravens cafe at whichurch. Very pleasant day but was dam hot wished I put my summer textiles on.. but still better than raining. can't add any pics because forgot to take any :hammer: but in our defence we did have a lot to catch up with as the last time we went for ride out we both had gtr1400's and met at the gtr1400 meet at the lower lode inn.. hopefully Steve took a few pics when I wasn't looking. All in all.. excellent rideout

Not been on the forum for a while as I sold my 2010 gtr1400 in 2012..  dare I say! went over to the dark side but now decide to go back to the zzr1400.. now I can you help me.. well! looking for a quick release tank bag route for the 2019 zzr1400 performance sport model had 3 zzr1400's over the years and always used the bagster tank cover and bagster bag which works well. but thinking of going down the quick release tank bag route now. I know a few on here have the zzr1400 so can anyone suggest a suitable quick release tank bag that will look decent and fit well without interfering with controls or satnav "if I use the stem mount type mount" been suggested the givi xs307 15 ltr tank bag would suit best but givi don't list a quick release tank ring for the zzr1400 also been told the givi tank ring BF04 will fit the zzr1400 but with givi not lisiitng the bf04 tank fixing kit for the zzr1400 make me wonder why? as anyone fitted the givi bf04 tank ring fixing kit to the zzr1400? the tank on the gtr1400 is more or less the same type so as anyone fitted the givi bfo4 fixing kit in the gtr1400 and what make of quick release tank bag bag did you use? as anyone used the sw-motec/kapper quick release tank bag heard they are also good but been told you need to drill the bag to fit the quick release fitment  but it would allow you to position the bag to suit the best position or any other suggestions on quick release tank bags? looking for a mid size tank bag similar to the mid size bagster minear tank bag. any pics of quick release tank bag either on the zzr1400 gtr 1400 to give me a idea what it looks like on the bike of various quick release tank bags would be most welcome.

General Discussion / riding laws in France
April 05, 2018, 09:58:50 PM
Can anyone educate me on HI-VIZ DECALS requirement when riding through France..  after hearing the french have been clamping down on the ridiculous law of having front/back/sides reflective stickers on helmets. I've done some research and can't seem to find a definitive answer if we need them or not. surely riding with a "HI-VIZ waist over coat" should be ample. also do we need these stickers on a yellow HI-VIZ helmet :undecided: with all of the mad laws that the french come up with and tolls every where and the fact they eat frog legs sometimes I ask my-self why I bother spending my hard earned cash with them.

SORRY NOW SOLD!!

Well not sure I would agree with this monstrosity :nono: if you look at the bottom of the tank on the last pic right by the riders important parts will will see a 6 inch sharp spike.. I know this is a solid spike because I tested it.. it is solid didn't even move and is sharp  must have a death wish  these pics were taken at Lake Garda in June 2014 when on tour around the Italian lakes. any ideas what this bike use to be

Like most of us on here I've have had lots of different bikes over the years and been a member of many bike forums  but I must say that this forum is the best out there for having a bloody good   Although I'm a b.m.w owner now I still think the GTR1400 is the best big tourer on the market at this present time  In fact.. when I was looking for a more comfy bike than my ZZR1400 for touring I was so close to buying another GTR1400  the 2010 model I had for 3 years was trouble free and as comfy as my arm chair. but didn't think the GTR1400 100 kg more weight over the R1200GS LC TE  would do my 'bloody' Rheumatoid 'sodden' Arthritis any good  just looking forward now to a possible GTR/BMW  weekend meet in the new year  just waiting to see what the "WOLF" decides to replace his B.M.W 1600 GT with....
