General Discussion / A Must See Film
March 01, 2012, 08:47:00 AM
We aren't big movie goers, but having recently watched War Horse, which is an outstanding film, we set off again last night and armed with popcorn, chocs and drinks went to our local Roxy, (yes it really is called that, and yes it really does only have one screen  :embarrassed:) to watch "The Best Marigold Hotel".

If you haven't already seen it, then I suggest that you do so.....NOW.....it's absolutely brilliant and will probably go down as the best film I've EVER seen....YES... even better than Kelly's Heroes, and that, from me, is saying something.

What's your fav film

General Discussion / Stunning Day In the North Lakes
February 24, 2012, 07:19:59 PM
It really was a beautiful day here today, once the early morning gloom dissapeared, and I was out around Bowness on Windermere, which was sunny and warm, then I travelled to Keswick in the North Lakes, where the sun was bouncing off the top of the fells..... all was well in my world

However, it would have been so much better if I'd been on two wheels instead of driving a multi-wheeler

Just watch It'll bloody well rain tommorow.

General Discussion / Regrets
February 11, 2012, 03:55:40 PM
Yeah I know it sounds like a cue for a song....ya know "regrets, I've had a few, but then again" dee daah dee dah

But I was thinking as an alternative to GTR posts, of which there are many - and some even good ones  :mfr_lol: ..that I would start a thread which has nowt to do with GTRs and ask :-

What do YOU regret NOT doing.....I'll get the ball rolling......

Not going to see Queen with Freddie Mercury live when I could/should have

General Discussion / The Falklands
February 11, 2012, 08:38:11 AM
Maybe its just me.....but why the hell are we even entertaining any communication from the Argies on the subject of the Falklands

I thought that the soveriegnity of that British outpost was confirmed in the foray that took place back in 1982

I now hear that Argentine is complaining because they "think" that Britain "may" have sent a nuclear submarine to watch over our territory

I reckon we should tell them to "piss off" and manage their inflation rate  ~ that's political vernacular you know.

Its about time that the U.K wasn't seen as a soft touch....bring it on...grrrrrr  :gun_bandana: :gunsmilie:

Okay ...I'm off my soap box now

General Discussion / My Workshop -the Rev Shed
February 06, 2012, 12:48:53 PM
Is more like a second home to me and whilst its very well built it has suffered massive heat loss for years due to complete lack of insulation, and it would have been totally uneconomical to even try and heat it, I'd probably have ended up heating half the village

Soooo, I decided to take the plunge and fit a suspended ceiling with 2" thick insulation boards for the ceilng. this has meant installing extra joists on hangers etc., before the insulated boarding can be attached.

It will lower the ceiling from its original pitch height down to a more comfy 10 feet or so, which will improve insulation and also light (I hope).

I also managed to get a contribution towards the cost of cavity wall insulation for my 'Rev Shed' and within a couple of weeks that work will also be carried out

Maybe I could now actually move out there full time instead of only popping in now and then  :mfr_lol:

I'll post some pictures of the work when its all completed.

Work started this morning on the ceiling and should be completed by tommorow

General Discussion / It could be you..........one day !!!
February 04, 2012, 08:13:14 AM
Couple in their nineties are both having problems remembering things. During a checkup, the doctor tells them that they're physically okay, but they might want to start writing things down to help them remember..
Later that night, while watching TV, the old man gets up from his chair. 'Want anything while I'm in the kitchen?' he asks.
'Will you get me a bowl of ice cream?'
'Sure..'
'Don't you think you should write it down so you can remember it?' she asks.
'No, I can remember it..'
'Well, I'd like some strawberries on top, too. Maybe you should write it down, so as not to forget it?'
He says, 'I can remember that. You want a bowl of ice cream with strawberries.'
'I'd also like whipped cream. I'm certain you'll forget that, write it down?' she asks.
Irritated, he says, 'I don't need to write it down, I can remember it! Ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream - I got it, for goodness sake!'
Then he toddles into the kitchen. After about 20 minutes,The old man returns from the kitchen and hands his wife a plate of bacon and eggs.. She stares at the plate for a moment.
'Where's my toast ?'

There are obviously a number of members here who have experience of 'on board filming'.

It's an area that interests me and I wonder if it might interest others too. In which case maybe we could share some skills, unless like me, you don't really have any !.... in which case we can look and learn.

1, What types of video cameras are best, are they better mounted on bike, clothing/helmet
2, Which editing site is recommended, I know of this one

http://vimeo.com/

3, Costs and ease of use
4, Pitfalls

There's nowt like watching a well produced on board bike video for getting the pulse racing, apart that is, from actually participating on the ride itself

Any thoughts ?

Accessories, Farkels and Mods / pillion footpegs
January 24, 2012, 10:31:06 AM
the standard pillion footpegs are not ideal and I reckon would be better with a rubber covering for confort/grip

On my last GTR I fitted the lowering kit available from Larrys, but I understand that the Kawasaki ER6F standard footpeg will fit straight onto the GTR, which seems like a good idea albeit it doesn't lower the pegs

The OEM parts are pricey, but I have seen this site, which is unfortunately some distance away, selling front pegs which may or may not do the job....does anyone have any experience of this mod? or am I going to have to spend with larry again

Accessories, Farkels and Mods / rear hugger
January 22, 2012, 04:41:36 PM
I'm sure lots has been written about which rear hugger is best

on my last GTR I had te skidmarx carbon variety, which was ok but to honest was more form than function

The Accessory section shown within this forum is fantastic and gives detail of the Motax hugger which from the pics looks to be a much better item

has anyone fitted one and if so how good is it

Thanks
Rog
