I have only ever replaced brake lines when deterioration started to affect braking performance and feel.
My GTR1000 has Goodridge hoses and CBR1000XXW 4 piston calipers on the front with EBC HH pads and discs from http://www.allbikeengineering.co.uk/.
The rear has the original caliper, Goodridge hose, EBC organic pads and disc from http://www.allbikeengineering.co.uk/.
On the 1000 the rear brake can be too good and it's easy to lock it so I don't want to improve the performance.
The bike is 22 years old and has 160,000 miles on the clock.

On the 1400 the brakes are awesome. I have the original discs, calipers, hoses and EBC HH pads all round.
The ABS gets triggered on the rear quite often but only ever gets triggered on the front when I am braking hard on a bumpy surface.
That momentary release of the braking can be momentarily terrifying when it first happens to you.
Now I'm used to it.
Bike is 3½ years old and has just short of 36,000 miles (and rising @ 600 per week).

I wish I had your money. I'd use it to buy another Russell Saddle and an even taller CalSci screen.  8)

I play PC games (Fallout New Vegas at the moment), do DIY, read a lot (3-4 novels a week).
I'm into science and technology (work in IT) and love to play with my 2 Burmese cats "Bozo" & "Monty".
I am an unfit oversized social-leper geek.  8)

Well, my August 2007 registered bike is well out of warranty so they can whistle if they think I'm paying even £160 for an oil & filter change and some checks. I now do my own oil & filter changes, my own checks, but haven't done an air-filter change yet. That is coming soon.
Will be going to the dealers for the 50,000 mile service (valves & sparkplugs) but apart from that I do my own servicing.
Now at a smidge under 35,000 miles and apart from the clutch, no serious problems.

Clutch was a trashed friction plate. Replaced with an EBC Friction Plate set, replaced one steel plate (old one was scored) and fitted +10% springs.
To be fair I cane the nuts off it in the lower gears and have a bad habit of revving the engine with the clutch lever pulled in to let the dozy cagers know that I am there. This is probably what trashed that plate. Either that or else something got trapped between the plates.
Replacing the clutch was pretty simple. About 3hrs including the fairing jigsaw puzzle.

For those who decide to do their own servicing;
1- Buy the cup style oil filter remover. Trust me, straps and chains don't work.
2- Buy a 22mm Hex stub for the front axle.
Other than that she is easy peasy to work on although getting the fairing off and on again is an exercise in 3D geometry and spatial awareness. <LOL>

I have 1500 miles on PR3s now and they are superb.
Cost £260 fitted to loose rims.
In the dry they are easily the equal of the PR2s they replaced, but in the wet they are awesome.
I'm glad I tried the PR3 and not the Z8s as I was planning to.

Service intervals on the 1400 are every 8,000 miles.
This is for oil/filter changes.
The inbetween "services" are just checkups with an optional oil change.

I paid £837 for my 24000/26000 mile service (done at 25200 miles).
They replaced 8 shims after juggling the others, replaced the spark plugs, oil, filter, air-filter, etc.
Yes it's steep but the most expensive service before this was the 16k which was £165.

A friends BMW K1200GT service intervals are every 6,000 miles but his cost £300 every time and £800 for the big one.

The Russell is about 2" taller for the rider and about 1" taller for the pillion.
On the 1400GTR definately not a saddle for anyone with an inside leg of less than 32".
Awesome comfort but it's not pretty.
On my 1000 I did a couple of 1000+ mile days with no discomfort apart from arms and neck.

This is my old Russell on the 1400 (now on Bagmans 1400)

And this is the Russell I still have on my GTR1000

I asked Bagman if I could buy the saddle back but he told me his better half would kill him if he did. <LOL>
I guess I'll just have to buy another new one then.

Costs about £500 with the "heavyweight" suspension for rider and pillion.
Takes about 8 weeks from when you ship your old saddle to getting it back.
I've done it twice now and as soon as I have £500 spare I'll be doing it again.

Thanks for the welcome all.
Have been active on here as it's been a quiet week at work.
I'm sure it won't last.  :(

As for Max, I believe he has dropped the server rental but don't know what is happening with the  domain 1400gtr.org.uk or the old forum.
For now the domain is still pointed at the CWCS nameservers so the domain is still "hosted" where it was, just not available.

This kind of problem is normally caused by an earth loop.
Isolated power supplies work as does cutting the earth wire (-ve) between the power connector and the iPhone.

For non electrical/electronic types I won't even try to explain how this works but it helps to think of the earth loop as an antenna that picks up all kinds of interference.

Take the panniers off and it looks like this.

On my old GTR1000 I've done 600 miles in a day with Ella on the back.
Apart from that we have done a total of approx 5000 miles touring 2-up.
On the 1000 (with the Russell saddle) she can fall asleep if she wants to as she ain't going anywhere.

That said she is not keen on the pillion perch on the 1400.
The saddle is poor, the position is worse and the pegs are just plain bad.
So, have fitted GTR1000 rear pegs and when finances improve will be buying yet another Russell.

She has done a 400 mile day 2-up on the 1400 but it was with the stock saddle so by the time we got back from Skidmarx in Weymouth she was rather sore.
Even I was fidgety.
We bought the Russell about 4 months later but had to sell it after getting Credit Crunched.

Now at 33500 miles on the 1400 and currently rising at 600 miles per week.
