Mecki, your arguments are fundamentally flawed but a) I'm tired of dodging the froth, and b) that penultimate paragraph of your made me lose interest in continuing the discussion with you. If you dislike the British so much perhaps you ought to live somewhere else.

Cartman, I don't agree with all of the local legislation, I just mentioned Germany as one example that in other countries tuning has been forbidden for yonks. You can still do certain modifications, but without type approval it can be very expensive indeed.

If you think I enjoy living in Newcastle? Think twice.
The weather is awful, the language they speak around here - no comment. And don't get me started on the beer  >:(
I have acquired certain skills that are sought after in the UK but not so much in other countries, so I have to live where I can find work.
And I'm not getting any younger either.
I've been looking for work some place else, but so far no luck.
Switzerland would be nice.

And even though I really like the idea of a united Europe, I definitely don't like the EU as it is now.
It is designed to benefit large corporations screwing over the populations of Europe and not for the benefit of it's citizens.

And no, Kevin, I don't dislike the British per se.
I met some nice Brits, and I still have to meet a nice South African.  ;D
But I dislike the island mentality and the wide spread chauvinism in this country.
I have found that a majority of Brits still live in the past and dream of glories long gone (if they were that glorious at all).
Maybe having lived in New Zealand for a long time may have a bit of an influence too.
You don't want to hear what they think of the poms.
The later you brake the longer you go fast.

I doubt it.

Did anyone see any TV coverage on this yesterday? I wasn't aware of any in Yorkshire.

Kevin

It apparently made the ITV news in the Bristol area and there were a couple of pieces on local web pages on the BBC news web site (it's just the three at the top).

There were hundreds of bikes on the M20 ride but the local ITV news was full of 'fun runs'. At the end of the ride I parked right next to someone who was part of the group we regularly went to the Le Mans 24-hour with many moons ago. He doesn't live locally and I haven't seen him for about 20 years so that was a pleasant surprise and coincidence. As he said to me "That was a typical British demonstration - just a little inconvenience for some drivers but not too much". Perhaps the only way to get the media's attention is to increase the inconvenience [shrugs].

There was a fair bit of interest from the public at the services who were looking at the bikes. I was chatting to some bloke who was on his way to Belgium by coach and explained what the protest was about. He said to me "When you see lots of cars you think 'traffic jam'. When you see a lots of bikes you think 'YEAH!'" which I thought was rather nice.

That was a much better conversation than I had with a rider of at least my age who came up to me and said "What do you think of the shaft drive? I've got the full power one and this is the diet version", he was on a ZZR1400. I wasn't entirely sure how to respond so I tried, "This must be the long distance version" to which he responded "I did a 2000 mile trip once with just a rucksack and the same smelly socks". I was a bit lost for words at that point and he wandered off after a short while.
