Six?? Wow I bet that's a record

 Yeah, I'd be really pissed! I've been shopping around in this expensive place called Canberra (heard of it? - Australia's National capital) where the dealers are crap for servicing, so I thought I'd take it further afield to where I bought the bike (2012 CC, colour Candy Arabian Red) near Sydney (about 300km). At this point it had 36000km on it, and time to do front and rear pad change. Rear OK, as I supplied EBC, but fronts they put on (and all dealers seems to sell them here) rubbish Ferodo pads. Long story short, after about 10000 more K's, I'm metal-to-metal on a 3-day ride. Now, I'm not a hard rider (I tend to get about 16000km on a set of Pirelli Angel GT's) but why metal-to-metal?. Anyway, rotors were shot, especially RHS inner. Ordered a new set of rotors and two sets of pads (EBC XC contour rotors and 4HH sintered pads) and speed bleeders from the US - including postage about 2/3 the cost of what it would have been here, and managed to find a slot with a very well reputed mechanic that works from home. Some tips from him are "yep, they replaced the pads; no, Ferodo should never be used; yes your calipers were filthy, I'm betting that when you have your tyres replaced they don't pop the pads out and give the calipers a quick clean and check" (rather typical here of the lazy sods). So why was one side of one rotor so badly worn? - his bet, they've pushed (at least) one piston in too far to get the new pads in, cut the dust seal, dust seal lip folds over and then the piston will not retract far enough and the pad is pushing on the rotor all the time. Well that would explain why it seemed to me that on close inspection, one was further out than the others. Problem is, with the 4 individual pistons and pads each side on the GTR and ZZR Nisin calipers, there isn't the natural re-alignment that occurs when you have a single pad pushed by two or more pistons. So is it possible, just possible, that it's the caliper piston seals that are a problem, not the pads, and the mechanic just hasn't done the hard yards and overhauled the calipers to rule that out? For what it's worth, my EBC's now have 5000km on them and not a worn patch in sight. Amazing what a difference a good mechanic and quality pads and rotors do for the bike!. Oh, and another tip from my new good friend "whenever you have your tyres changed, pop the pads out (yes I already said that) and put them face down on the pavement and do a quick figure-8 to de-glaze them, and pop them back in".
