I'm about to start the valve clearance job on my GTR, what are the parts I definitely need to order? I'll change the spark plugs as well. The bike is an 07 and has done 25,556 miles. I believe the check should be carried out at 26000mls.

Cheers guys

You'll definetly want to replace the valce cover gasket and the spark plug tunnel gaskets.  I'd also think about servicing the fuel pump in the tank while its off

I think it's the tools you'll need. From memory it's very very tight working in there

There's a video done by a member of one of  the American forums that I followed. Even then it was a pain with all the bits that you have to take off.

The space to work in there is very tight

When my GTR was due the valve service , my dealer quoted about £1000 .  I waited until a quiet time of the year for them, took off all the panels I could, supplied my own shims and they did it for about £500 in the end.

Replacing the spark plugs is a no-brainer when youve got that far into the engine

It ain't no job for a novice - especially if they need adjusting.  Precise measurements are critical - to state the obvious.  More than one owner has been sorry to have gone into it.

Job completed!!
All 16 valves were on the tight side, just below bottom limit, to be expected on its first check.  She fired up with no problems. Valves sorted, new air filter, spark plugs. Just brake / clutch fluid and coolant change to go. Thanks for the help and advice.

How did you find doing the valve service? How many were out of spec?

Looks like a comprehensive service
