Planning to fit new brake pads in the next couple of weeks usually straight forward but can someone just assure me that there is no way I can upset the Abs if I take the front wheel off? I know I don't have to take the wheel off to do the brakes but going to take the opportunity to clean everything up.

There will be no  problem with the ABS just because you take the front wheel off. I appreciate that you want to take the front wheel off to clean things up, but if you moved the callipers out of the way would that not give you enough room to give the wheel a good scrub?

Agreed....did my pads last week, very easy to do, but you'll have to remove the calipers, which means you'll have good access to the wheel to get in an scrub ;D
It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

You dont have to remove the callipers to change the pads. Removing the callipers though is a good idea because it gives you an opportunity to clean out the excess brake dust and other crap before you start pushing the pistons back to accomodate thicker pads.  If you dont do this you could damage your seals and cause a leak.
