Anyone added a second exhaust on the left side purely for storage purposes? What I'm thinking is the tools I carry for emergencies can go in here and free up a pannier.

I've managed to get hold of a cheap ZZR 1400 exhaust and will be attempting the modification soon. Two things I can thing of:

1. a custom mount will have to be made
2. to keep a natural look as possible, the link pipe will have to be routed not to interfere with the stand

Obviously there's the question how its going to work in practice but I'm hoping there will be enough space to store odds and sods. At the worst, a cylindrical fuel cannister should fit in there  :)

Anyone done this mod already?

That has to be one of the strangest ideas I have heard in a long time :o :o

It would be interesting to see what your insurance company says about that modification  :o

Stranger than the coffee holder?  ;D

Doubt my insurance company will say anything. After all, its not linked to the exhaust sysem

That is just bizarre, why not get a tank bag or rucksack maybe? Is this a wind up? Is it really worth all that effort? Love to see it when you finished though, good luck.

This is for stuff I'll constantly carry, so a rucksack and tank bag are out of the question.

This is a serious project. I go and collect the exhaust next week for the grand price of £5.99

You had a bang on the head recently

Mind you filling up the exhaust at the petrol station could be interesting

Anyone know where I can source a left mounting bracket for an exhaust in the uk? I'll be picking up the exhaust on the weekend. Plan is to clean it out, determine best security and access and then mount.

Don't mind making a custom bracket but would be great if I can just purchase an off the shelf one.

NB, I'm still asking myself why?

Why go through all the hassle for something you can just put in the panniers?

Boomer

Why not?
Two Brother made a system called "The Stash" for VFR800s that had one working and one dummy silencer.
A friend uses his to hold a puncture repair kit and a spare key.

A puncture repair kit and a spare key! Glovebox springs to mind on the GTR.

Ah well, who knows, maybe it'll become the latest must have accessory. I'll be interested to see it if it gets completed but I'm still struggling with the motive if I'm honest.

Now that is the worst place for your spare key since you can't open it unless the ignition is on.
The later you brake the longer you go fast.

Depends which year you have old boy.  ;D
It was an example, I wouldn't actually leave a key in there cause somebody would swipe the bike.
