My son and I had been talking about going to the tank museum but it is too far from us for a day trip, so with the forecast looking good we decided to have a little holiday. We set off in the sun on Monday with tent and sleeping bags in the top box, mats and clothes in the panniers and a campsite(s) to aim for. Lovely journey down the A3/A31 and a few twisty local roads to Wareham, the boy thoroughly enjoying the ride, but I did have to stop him singing down the intercom ;D

On arrival I found out that camping has changed A LOT since my last trips with a tent in the UK, you have to be on a site, it's quite pricey and apparently something called 'glamping' has happened :o But we pitched the tent and sorted ourselves out, as you can see below...

Tank Museum at Bovington was great, really good for big and little kids and we also discovered some lovely twisty quiet roads in the area too, but seeing tanks with 'L' plates coming the other way made for some good laughs.

Visited Monkey World Rescue Centre on Wednesday which was good too, especially if you have kids with energy to burn, lots of playgrounds. Affterwards a little ride down to Weymouth to show the boy where I was born and have some excellent fish and chips.

Wednesday night brought a monsoon, which did not abate until 10am, at which point, still warm and dry inside the excellent tent, we packed up the and headed home, sadly not going back the 'pretty' way but the quickest as the weather was awful.

Just goes to show that any excuse to get out on the bike and see stuff is a good one, and it doesn't require a huge amount of preparation either :D

I'd love to do that with my three lads, but how do I get em all on the bike?

2 panniers & a top box  :) stayed in a good B&B in Blamford a few weeks back, had some good rideouts. Here's the basic routes in Garmin format which could be corrected & ammended.

We went to the Tank Museum a few years on a UKBusas meet. It really is an interesting place isn't it.

Shame about the weather for your trip back.
