After over 40 years of ownership, I've finally let my Z1300 go.

It was a bit of a wrench, but it was the right thing to do, despite being retired I wasn't getting the time to ride it and hopefully it is now I the hands of someone who will do the necessary work to it and have some pleasure in riding it.

After helping to heave it into a van and seeing it off I was expecting my wife to present me with a list of things that a "windfall" should be spent on, but it was not the case – I think there was almost a tear from her, we've had it longer than the kids after all.

I doubt that I'll ever be up to four bikes again, three seems enough, but you never know.

Yes, I will miss it, but at the same time I will not miss the fact that a new problem seemed to develop every time I took it out and then reaching for my wallet and scouring the internet for discontinued parts.

Classic bikes are great to look at if they are someone else's responsibility, but I'm not sure that I want anything to do with relatively skinny rear tyres or carbs anymore. My GSX1400 will fill in nicely for muscle bike days.

It's sort of tempting to use some of the cash generated to replace my Z1000, but the one I have is still a great looking bike (eyes of the beholder I know) it is just a bit of an uncomfortable seat - maybe I'll treat it to a Shad Comfort Seat and see if that does it.

I disagree. I find almost all modern bikes to be "soulless" compared to the older analogue machines. Don't get me wrong, the modern bikes accelerate harder, ride faster, handle better, brake better, but to get any kind of thrill out of them you need to be riding so fast you they will probably crush your bike and burn your licence when you get busted.
Riding my ancient 200k mile GTR1000 is way more challenging and rewarding than the 1400.

I did over 100k miles on my Z1300(DFI) in the mid 80's and while it was smooth and blisteringly fast it was seriously hard work to hustle it through the twisties.
Would I have another one? Probably, but I'd need a Lottery jackpot win as would need a much bigger garage.

That's a shame Peter especially how you look after them .
As you say the expense and finding the parts stay safe 👍
