At the end of my tour of Scotland on the Isle of Skye, my GTR (2007, 35,000 km) suddenly lost a lot of coolant - previously there had been no increase in temperature, but when I stopped to refuel, it bubbled onto the manifolds, the temperature rose quickly and the motorcycle was enveloped in a cloud of steam. The tow truck driver had no idea where I could have it repaired, so I flew home and the motorcycle will be delivered to Germany in 4 to 6 weeks.
Has anyone had something similar before? Anything from a slipped hose to a crack in the cylinder head is possible as a cause, but perhaps there is "standard damage".

Best Regards

It certainly won't be a cracked head!   More likely a loose hose/clamp.

Should be easy to find with plastic off.

Unfortunately, it wasn't a hose that had slipped off or a cover that had come loose, but a stone chipped the upper part of the radiator. The motorcycle could not be delivered to my home address, where I would have installed a used radiator. This meant that the Kawa workshop was able to generate sales of €1,350 from me - the radiator alone costs over €900.

Thats really bad luck Snaporaz,at least the bike can be repaired for you to enjoy on another day.

How much?!

I simply would not have paid that.

A pattern radiator is about £125 and not too hard to fit

I wasn't at all happy about the cost, but the transporter of the motorcycle that my insurance company hired doesn't deliver to private addresses, only to companies. And it would have been a bit of a hassle to have the broken motorcycle delivered to me (I live 30 km away) - not to mention that the garage (which I only know casually) had already arranged for the motorcycle to be received. So I had to bite the bullet, but I'm - as O.C. correctly said - happy about the repaired motorcycle!

I've already ordered the radiator stone guard - the fender extender is a good idea, I will look for it!

Get them both ... a simple search on E-Bay or similar site will help you...you have already experienced the costs of not fitting them

good luck
