I have a 2007 GTR 1400 the original specified tyres are Bridgestone BT 021 are no longer available I believe the closest replacement is BT023 GT The sizes of this replacement differs from the original rear 190/50 ZR 17 (73W) The replacement BT023 GT however is 190/55 ZR 17 (75W) The '55' suggests the tyre is larger Can anyone advise if this represents a clearance problem when touring with rider a pillion two saddle bags and a top box?

Get either Dunlop Roadsmart or Michelin Pilot Road.
Their wet grip is better than the Bridgestones dry grip.
They are both available in Gt and ordinary.
If you are fully loaded most of the time get the gts.
The 55 is 9.5mm taller in the middle than the 50 which fits no problem and makes it roll into corners easier but flat spots the center tread slightly sooner.

Agreed, the Bridgestone BT-021 are terrible tyres. I've never tried the 023.
I prefer the Michelin Road 5GT or Road 6GT and I hear good things about Dunlop RoadSmart 3 & 4 as well as Pirelli Angel 2GT.
I've been running the 190/55-ZR17 on the rear for the last 3 tyres (all Michelin PR4) and prefer it over the 190/50-ZR17 as it handles better. It does raise the seat by 5mm but clears my hugger and no other issues with that size.
