the BATTERY display on the screen prior to start up is showing 12.3 volt's then it's up to 14.2 then drop's again to 12.3 volt's while riding, the battery was replaced about 2 years ago for the OEM one, could this be the voyage regulator or a duff BATTERY.any advice appreciated.

Should be 14.2V when the engine is running.
Sounds like you have a problem with the alternator.
If it was the rectifier/regulator then you would have over 15V and the electronics would fry.
However, first check the battery cables, especially the negative where it bolts to the frame.
It's pretty common for corrosion there to cause weird voltage problems.

i have already checked the battery leads & the earth's, i got alf's motorcycles in worthing to pick it up on tuesday, they are pretty sure it's the voltage regulator/rectifier at fault, i noticed when i started it up on tuesday morning the light's were flickering.there's an auto electrician there on this saturday, before they carry out any work they want a 2nd opinion.which is fair enough with me.the bike is a 2012 plate, had it from new & to be totally honest it's 1st issue with it !!!
