I tend to use the Route Planner within the Nav 6. You can use either towns, streets, specific addresses or coordinates as waypoints. Create a route, save it for the future, give it a name etc, I tend to do that for my Scottish tours and it's worked well so far.

There is of course Basecamp but I've never fully understood how it works and by using it you are overcomplicating the process in my opinion.

Agreed, I've looked at basecamp which appears to me to be an unnecessary extension of the Navigation V1,

I'm still working my way around the excellent Nav V1,

Thanks for the advice Steve

why would you want a route planner  all the best biking roads I've come across is because I didn't have "scooby doo" where I was going. then you don't need a route planner to find them again :mfr_lol:
getting on now...  but not as old as Rog or Geoff

:mfr_lol:  I still like to occasionally plan a route  Dave, I think its interesting .... that doesn't make me a bad person     :mfr_lol:  :mfr_lol:

Fair enough Rog... As I mostly ride North wales I don't need to plan routes..

P.S Take no "bread potus" of the wolf.. most likely will throw his 2 penneth worth in :whistling:  that I only know the way to the ponderosa  :biker3:

Dave's the only person I know who can tell his bike to go to the Ponderosa and he'll see it there later and it knows the way without him actually being on the bike.  :mfr_lol:

Just had a nice 1900 mile ride up to Scotland and back avoiding motorways after York. I planned the route using tomtom my drive webpage. You can zoom into the map which makes sure you don't miss roads like the B9031 when visiting for the first time. As well as being able to drop the file onto your tomtom it can also save a route as a .gsx file if that's of use to non tomtom owning users.
when all else fails read the manual

On 409 series TomTom units you can share a track like that simply by Bluetooth between units, but on the 500 series units this option has been removed.

A good way around this is to create the track with MyDrive, as you suggest, but then share it with something like WhatsApp.  As long as you have MyDrive on your phone, or use WhatsAppWeb you can then open the WhatsApp as attachment with MyDrive and save it to your saved routes.  It'll then show up on the 500 units. (Might take a few minutes to sync)

Basecamp for me with a mix of best biking roads in europe. Still have to check every inch to avoid Garmin eppies. Quite happy to down load 17 days worth of a trip to memory cards from basecamp but never more than one day at a time. Had it once when I put a weeks worth as one journey. Dam thing recalculated half way through the last day of the trip and added 400 miles to the days destination. Turned it into quite a gallop. I never allow it to recalculate once the custom route has been installed as it will scrap the route you've spent months planning for either fastest, shortest or twisty depending on twat navs settings.
bike too tall, lower it, eat cake
