I'm a suspicious old git these days

I have just received an e-mail update request from EBay asking for my date of birth and confirmation of my bank account details, I'm not sure if I should smell a rat

Has anyone else received such a request recently ?

EBay have changed the payment system. Instead of you getting paid via PayPal it goes directly into the account you have registered/ listed it may be this . Just make sure when I had it I clicked the link and it opened my account everything was already there 👍

Yep, thanks  I have done almost exactly that, plus there are messages within my Ebay message box regarding payment changes to Paypal so it appears to be bona fida

I still don't like this sort of thing though

Further enquiries show that EBay will basically cut out the 'middle man' i.e PayPal and conduct monetary transactions themselves

So anything you buy then EBay will make the payment on your behalf from your nominated bank account, and anything you sell they will forward your monies into the same nominated account

I think its fair to presume that EBay will hang on to your funds from sales for a day or so and will also charge for the service, which might be seen as a worse deal than using paypal ... no surprises there then

Ebay undoubtedly take liberties these days, I'd be interested to know what they are worth. I try not to sell on ebay any longer as the charges can be disproportionate

I have now confirmed my date of birth and their system has updated... I don't use Ebay much these days anyway although I've been a member since 2005 I think
