Have had GTR's on the Tour every year since 1986.
The GTR1000's were popular because they had a gearbox that hadn't been stolen from a tractor, but could still carry all the crap a K100RT could carry.
From 2002 to 2007 there weren't many of them as Kawasaki were no longer selling GTR's in the EU, only in the USA & Canada.

On TV the Tour can be interesting.
If you go to see it live it's hours of waiting, then all the bikes fly past in a few seconds followed by 8,000,000 cars.
Each to their own I guess but I can think of better ways to spend my time.

Le tour is one of those events that I'd like to see live once, simply for the atmosphere and sense of occaision.

Trouble is you got to be there 3 days in advacne to get a good road side spot

today... just before 3-5km goal there was a white GTR1400 - look alike TV rig - but not sure! And for the first time I spoted a gray too....
Well... watching Le' Tour JUST to see GTR1400, eh?    ::)
Cheers,

I did some Cycle racing in my 20s...I love the Tour. but never seen it live , as like you say , blink & its gone. Like tonight , even the front half Dozen before they were swallowed up by Pelton were riding at 40mph...Ive only done them speeds going down hill. Too ride on flat at 25 is good going. They are phenomenal , well the ones not on Drugs are....

I have big respect for the Motor cyclist,  as when it comes to the Descents in the Mountains they are often riding at 60mph...that takes bit keeping up with on a twisty decent I reckon. Still they got the Bike to do it with.

Been to see it once when we stayed near Dijon, like already previously stated there is lots of waiting but if the weather is nice it's ok. Just remember to take some sun cream ::)
This year I'll try and join in on the GTR ;D Get our lass sitting backwards with the camera ;D
We will be seeing them into Gap this year and out again the next day! They pass by our hotel by 100 yards!!
Planning is where its at, you need to be near a road that you can escape when the peloton has passed down avoiding the traffic.

I think the white one is a medical bike.

Interesting to see the pillion leaning down putting a dressing on  cyclist's leg while moving!

Those camera bikes are un-believable. On the recent Tour of Italy the tv bike was scraping its pegs keeping up with the race leader. Needless to say the camera man was holding on tight!

They don't always. I remember one many years ago where we had images of ground-sky-ground-sky-ground-sky-ground-sky-BLACK.
Cameraman had dropped the camera when the bike went over a big bump.  ;D
These days the camera is strapped to the cameraman and in some cases the cameraman is strapped to the bike.
