Starting to look a tad tatty, paint coming off and a bit of rust. Any ideas for a simple cure, wire brush and paint?

I took mine off and had it powdercoated gloss black, only cost £10 locally, saves hassle.
Ducati owner now but I used to have a Black one, the fastest version.

I had mine removed by a bike shop for power coating, it's not a job for the faint hearted.
There were some specialist tools required which I didn't have.
It looked great though once tarted up.

If I remember correctly ,it went:- on centre stand, remove exhaust, remove rear wheel, support or suspend bike at rear, undo rear shock linkage, undo centre stand and remove.
The twitchy bit is supporting/suspending the bike. I used a scaffold pole between two builders trestles and hung the bike by a pair of ratchet straps.

I can't remember exactly how I removed it but it was no hassle at all, yes the shock hanger bolts came out but I did not need any special tools at all.

If I remember correct it took less than 15 minutes to get off.

That was pretty good going then at 15 minutes. I think it took my guy just under an hour each time.

Boomer

Or ya could just take it off, wire brush, rust-ease and then 2 coats of black Smoothrite.

Boomer has a point but I do remember Steve when your stand was "done" .. it DID look very new

Yes if you have it powder coated it will look brand new and the paint will be more hard wearing than when if came off the production line.
