I've just been reading this thread by Brian on the ZGGTR site...http://www.zggtr.org/index.php?topic=6976.0  and I've had a quick butchers on here for anything in the same line.

I can't find anything via the search section....so just wondering if we have any info this side the pond???...has anyone on here suffered the same problem??...it seems such an easy item to buy/make just to have as a backup.

I've done this to death, so I'll keep it brief so as not to bore everyone else...

I rode to Nordkapp last year. Whilst there, my ignition switch decided to stop working. After smacking hard with a disc lock it came to life, but I didn't want to risk it after that (it'd taken an hour or so of tapping and fiddling and finally hitting it numerous times to get to that point). On the ride home, I just disconnected the battery earth when I wanted to "shut her down" overnight.

I ordered the bypass kit, and before it arrived, I was cleaning the bike and pressure-washed around the ignition switch. After that it all worked perfectly!

I fitted the bypass anyway, for peace of mind.

It'd be easy to make if you don't mind hacking into your wiring loom under the rubber boot, but the plug and play solution is rather elegant.

I'm fairly sure that on the Gen2 GTR (post-2010) Kawasaki fitted a stronger spring in the ignition switch to cure the issue.

Amen to that!

The real joke is that there is still a bloody key under the cooker knob anyway!

No it wouldn't.  Both of my 4 wheel and two wheel vehicles are 'keyless'.   Rented a car with a key and had a difficult time adjusting to it.  I kept leaving the key in the ignition.
