I have the wheels off for new tyres.
I decided I'd look at greasing the driveshaft splines and referred to the 'how to' on the subject
http://www.gtr1400.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=77.0
There's no special tools required. The job took about 2 hours all in excluding the wheel removal process. It was very straightforward.
I did a couple of things differently to how Asif had described insofar as I didn't completely remove the final drive body, it swung down far enough hinged on the loosened bottom bolt. I also removed the rubber boots and thoroughly cleaned them up using copious WD40 and soapy water.
As far as the splines themselves, they were almost bare of grease when I removed the shaft. See the pictures below.
So I cleaned them up, it didn't take much work to do.
Then applied my Honda Molypaste and reassembled.
Nothing complicated in this job whatsoever and is an easy service to do for most diyers.

It took me about 8 hours.....2 hours for the job and the rest looking for that silly spring pin that kaboinged into hiding.

You know what sticky ive had most of my bike apart and i have to say if you have a decent tool kit then theres nothin to be scared of. Its all pretty straightforward and just applying some common sense and methodical thinking, i bet most people could do any job on these bikes. The rear wheel for example looks complicated to get off yet one alan bolt one split pin and one castle nut later and literally three mins and its off. Six or seven n the fronts off too. Often what looks complicted is really not
Good job with the splines by the way sticky, it gives you a sense of self satisfaction i bet 👍

Hi,

I'm planning a big service on the GTR and looked into the grease/paste for the drive but the only one I can find at the moment is this replacement for the Honda 60:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FOR-HONDA-MOLY-60-M-77-ASSEMBLY-PASTE-GREASE-75G-2-65OZ/401565710149?epid=650331665&hash=item5d7f2e7745:g:rpcAAOSw1qtbRUoJ&frcectupt=true

I found other Moly grease but with lower content of MoS.

Has anyone got a better supplier for the grease, please?
Thanks

Cyrille

In  always used Honda Brand Moly 60 paste, albeit in a tube.

There are a number of forum discussions surrounding this subject and other alternatives are suggested ... if you google "Honda Moly 60 Paste"  I think you may find an answer
