Hi guys n gal. Does anyone think a difference of 0.0005 of an inch between valve shims will make any noticeable difference to the engine running. I personally dont think so but would value your oppinions anyway. Its just how the shim sizes have worked out. I have no inlets to do. Theyre all in spec and seven exhaust are out on 0.007 of an inch with actually one being 0.0065. When i reshim it brings them all around 0.008 with one at 0.0085. Do u think that odd one at 0.0085 will make a jot of difference ? 🤔🤔🤔

Back in the past when I was an engineer and used to visit a company who made race engines they would get to within a thou 0.001 and be happy.

I doubt very much it would make any difference, tightening a bolt slightly to tight might take up any slack or leaving a bolt to slack might give it a bit more clearance.

If it was my bike, I would be happy.
Ducati owner now but I used to have a Black one, the fastest version.
Previous, Sprint ST (2), VFR 800, Fireblade's (4) SP1, VTR1000, GPZ900, CB250, BSA Bantam D14/4, Suzuki TS100, SX200.

Ye i did think it wouldnt make much odds. Well im gonna stick with it  ill throw a few photos too to show the amount of work involved. Showing exhaust cam in then out and spikey timing cog. Also one shows the limited amount of room to work with. But it is doable so when my shims arrive ill post some more 👍👍

I would be happy at that. A slightly larger gap is better as the gaps get smaller as they wear.

Macskwak

Yep wildy i make you right. Better over than under on these bikes 👍

Another thing to consider is the fuel filter. http://www.zggtr.org/index.php?topic=17490.0;topicseen

Actually Asif had a very good write up on that, I think.

Why yes, he did, and here it is..  You didn't even need to go out of country.  http://www.gtr1400.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=4244.0
